Herbs For Your Eyes

Herbs For Your Eyes
EYES

Apart from heart disease people are very concerned with vision problems.
Our sight is the most precious of the five senses, it is better to take precautionary measures to prevent such dreadful diseases such as cataract, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. While consuming vegetables and fruits may supply essential nutrients to your eyes, you can fortify your intake of nutrients by taking a supplement that includes A, C, E, and zinc. I would further recommend you to take the following herbs to strengthen your eyesight:

  • Eyebright
  • Bilberry
  • Fennel
  • Gingko
  • Spirulina
  • Chlorella

Eyebright: It is used to reduce redness and swelling. It tightens the mucous membranes of the eyes and appears to relieve the inflammation of conjunctivitis and blepharitis.

Bilberry: Bilberry contains anthocyanosides that may decrease the rate of macular degeneration and prevent other retinal conditions from occurring. It also improves night vision.

Fennel: It is reported that extracts of fennel seed have been shown in animal studies to have potential use in the treatment of glaucoma.

Gingko: It promotes blood circulation to the eyes, thus also improves the supply of oxygen. It has been used in Europe to aid in glaucoma and macular degeneration

Spirulina: It is a rich natural source of Beta-Carotene (Pro-Vitamin A), which helps improve eyesight.

Chlorella: It is a good source of lutein and zeaxanthin. Harvard researchers found that people with the highest consumption of lutein- and zeaxanthin-rich foods lowered the risk of macular degeneration by as much as 57%, compared to people who consumed the least amount of these foods.

You can obtain a mixture of the above herbs over the counter and this is the brand that I am using:

Eyebright Plus from Vitahealth.

It contains the following:

Eyebright
Fennel
Carrot (root powder)
Spirulina
Chlorella

I find herbal supplements to be beneficial to my vision.
