Outbound marketing
Outbound marketing is the traditional way of doing business. The techniques used are print adverting, ads on TV and radio, telemarketing, direct mail, and email, and many more. These forms of marketing are perceived as an interruption to customers. As an example, when you are watching your favorite TV program you are often interrupted by ads. Outbound marketing means customers are at the receiving end. They are not in control.
Inbound marketing
The emerging of the Internet has changed the way business is done. The customers are very much in control. They actively surf the Net for information and do shopping online. Inbound marketing means customers come to you. It is up to you to attract the customers to go to your site. Some of the new ways of marketing are:
- Blogging
- Search engine optimization
- Networking on the blogosphere
- Buzz marketing
- Pay per click advertising
- A detailed and sophisticated analysis of marketing performance
Blogging
The point I want to highlight is that when we do blogging we are actually practicing inbound marketing. We employ more or less similar methods to attract readers to our sites to read our articles. Here are some of the methods that we do to entice readers to visit our sites:
- Write and post unique and original articles to solve readers’ problems.
- Optimize our sites so that search engines can locate our sites and our articles easily.
- We market our articles to where the readers are: social bookmarking and social networking sites. We also submit our sites to blog directories and our articles to article directories.
- We network with others with similar niche and interests at social media sites.
- We employ analytical tools to track visitors to our sites. Arm with the right information we strengthening our uniqueness and reduce our weaknesses.
Isn’t it nice to know that when you do blogging you are also doing inbound marketing, the new way of marketing?
