5 Words To Live By

5 Words To Live By

Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate, and to humble. -Yehuda Berg

Here are 5 simple yet powerful words to bring you meaning, energy, focus, and enthusiasm in many ways. However, merely knowing the words is useless, you must make changes in your life to live by these words. Taking action will bring you positive results beyond your imagination. Here are the five wonderful and yet down-to-earth words to bring you success in life:

1. Grateful: Gratitude is the most important word. Because gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues but the parent of all others according to Marcus Tullius Cicero.

To me, gratitude is about contentment and appreciation. Always count your blessings and be happy with what you are and what you have.

Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude, says Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings. These are the golden words of William Arthur Ward.

How do you cultivate an attitude of gratitude? This is what I do every night before I go to sleep. I write in my diary on a few things that I am thankful about. It can simply be good health, good work or just feeling good for another great day.

2. Calm: With thankfulness and gratefulness, there is no jealousy and hatred in your heart. There is peace of mind because you don’t compare yourself with others, you will just be happy with yourself.

I get up by six every morning to do Taichi and breathing exercises. Taichi is meditation in motion; I get into a state of calmness to start a new day.

3. Mindful: When you are grateful and calm, your mind does not wonder about. There is nothing to disturb your peace of mind. You develop mindfulness to live moment to moment. You focus on the task at hand. You do not rush about; you enjoy your work and your leisure time.

For me mindfulness is paying attention to what you do in the present be it reading, eating, jogging, or listening. Because I am grateful and I feel a sense of serenity; I live every day with mindfulness.

4. Productive: There is enough time for you to do things which you have to do and there is time for you to do what you want to do. This is my interpretation of productivity.

I set long-term goals and I organize my daily activities in advance by way of a to-do-list. I have a daily checklist to monitor my progress so that I am on top of things. I don’t want to remember my work, I just write things down. Your brain is for creative thinking and not for mundane tasks. There is time for me in the evening after work to jog in the open. I am pleased to have dinner regularly with my family in the evening. I am free to watch TV news and read a few pages before I retire to recharge my battery for another brand new day.

5. Happy: Happiness is what you want the most in your life. I have decided to leave it as the last word for a very good reason. You do not seek happiness directly; it is a by-product of your thinking and what you do in your daily life. When your thinking is positive, you will be happy. Thoughts of gratefulness and appreciation will generate containment and calmness in your life. When you are not disturbed you are at peace with the world. You will live from moment to moment focusing on the task at hand and thinking of nothing else. You are productive. Naturally, a feeling of joy and happiness will prevail.

Last words

Gratefulness, calmness, mindfulness, and productivity are my bywords. I live by these words, happiness comes to me naturally. Take the challenge, incorporate these five words into your life and transform yourself.
