According to Trading Economics, the unemployment rate in November 2010 was 9.8% which was not far away from the historical high of 10.8% in November 1982. Unemployment is of major concern among American people. How do you deal with unemployment effectively? Here are the suggestions:
• Take a break: News of unemployment is the most traumatic period in a person’s life. Self-esteem and personal confidence are at the lowest level. You are confused, frustrated, angry and depressed. It is important during this period that you do not do anything hasty, but to allow the initial disappointing time to get over calmly and quickly.
• Take stock of your self: When you have got over the difficult period you are now composed to assess your strengths and weaknesses. Identify the area of your expertise and interests and find out what other skills are needed to increase your chances to be reemployed.
• Intensive job search: It is essential to get a new job as soon as possible. The main worry is that the longer it takes the slimmer will be the likelihood for you to be engaged. HR managers are paying more attention to the period that you are out of a job. It is more so when your job is technology related. You will be out of touch with the fast advancements that are taking place during your unemployment. The most effective way is to be proactive by going to places where the jobs are available and matching your skills. Research those companies well and see those people who have the power to hire you.
• Stay physically active: It is also during this period that you should exercise more often to stay in good shape. Get up early and watch the rising sun to feel good about yourself. Daily exercise also promotes calmness and energy in you.
• Update yourself: Use the time profitably by learning more about your area of interests. Start a blog, do research and write articles to hone your skills. Connect your blog and network with people at Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Be exposed and be noticed.
• Stay motivated: Read motivational quotes and articles when you get up early in the morning. It is during this crucial period to stay upbeat and hopeful about the future. Think positive and stay positive.
• Stay connected: Inform your friends and relatives that you are looking for a job. Ask for leads and get introduced to those people who are looking for people to work.
