Spiritual health is about inner peace, love, and harmonious life. It often takes great pain, suffering, and difficulties for someone to experience true spirituality. Spiritual growth gives you meaning and strength to live and spiritual health enhances mental and physical health. Apart from chronic health problems you still can attain spiritual health in many ways.
Love: The opposite of love is hatred, anger, resentment, and jealousy. These negative emotions will create havoc in your mind and you will be restless. When you change your thoughts and replace your negative emotions with positive ones your mind will be at peace with the world.
Empathy: It is feeling the emotions and sharing the pain of others. Empathy and compassion for others are actually empathy for your own sacred spirit. Give and you shall receive.
Strength: Your religious belief, meditation, and prayer are sources of your strength and courage. It helps you feel better and cope better with life’s adversities.
Forgiveness: When you cannot forgive, you want to take revenge and get even. You are tensed up and you are under pressure. When you forgive, you think of nothing and you don’t do anything. You let go and gain peace of mind.
Hope: When you have meaningful goals and you know the ways to reach your goals, there is hope and hope gives you the strength to carry on and live.
"If you lose hope, somehow you lose the vitality that keeps life moving, you lose that courage to be, that quality that helps you go on in spite of it all. And so today I still have a dream." ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
Meditation: Regular meditation promotes spiritual fulfillment. Brain researchers show how meditation can train the higher capacities of the mind, such as perception, awareness, and compassion.
Gratitude: One effective way to appreciate, say, your health or your job is to remember what it was like when you were without a job or seriously ill. When you are grateful for what you have, you will feel optimistic about the future and be joyful.
Be with nature: Spiritual well-being is closely linked to our connection to nature and to our cosmic energy force. Get away from the city and spend time walking in the park, go jungle trekking, and enjoy a picnic by the stream.
In the present: The ability to live in the present means you can forget about the pain of yesterday and the worry of tomorrow and live a new day like the beginning of a new life.
Happiness: Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude. ~ Denis Waitley.
Acceptance: Acceptance is to react to things in a positive light and to deal with it in the best you can.
The quickest way to change your attitude toward pain is to accept the fact that everything that happens to us has been designed for our spiritual growth.
M. Scott Peck
