Parenting - 10 Things to Avoid
Getting along well with your children is a wonderful and happy thing in life. In order to be successfully connected with your children you must avoid the following ten things:
1. Worry too much: Don’t think too much about your children, about their health, about their safety, about their academic success, about… Your anxiety will show on your face and it will affect your children negatively. You can plan for their future but live each day as it comes and offers them the freedom to grow.
2. Do too much: You bear too many responsibilities for the children. Allow your children to take care of themselves. Let them shoulder some of the things that they can do by themselves.
3. Scold too much: Out of concern, you reprimand your children too much and too often. When you are too critical of them, you are feeding your children negative thoughts. It is detrimental to the development of a positive self-image.
4. Give too much: You pamper them by giving them too many material things to enjoy. It sends a signal that things come easy.
5. Expect too much: You have very high expectations of the children and you send them to too many tuition classes. Remember that all work and no play make Jack a dull boy. Don’t pressure them too much; let them lead a balanced life so that you allow your children to develop mentally as well as physically.
6. Play too little: They enjoy very little outdoor activities because they are tied up with homework, tuition classes and when they have done with, they are too tired to do anything else but to rest.
7. Communicate too little: Working parents spend very little quality time to connect with their children. Remember that your presence is more important than your presents. Your children don’t talk to you because you talk to them not often enough. You need to spend time listening to your children.
8. Know too little: Parents should keep themselves up-to-date with the information technology so that you can catch up with your children. They are very adaptive to the Internet and other latest gadgets and you are not.
9. Love too little: Because you spend very little time with your children you can’t demonstrate fully your love for the children. Give them abundant love so that they will love you in return.
10. Too little flexibility: You are unable to change your role to suit different situations. You are always playing the role of parents. From time to time try to be their friends and get into their world to understand them better. Change your role to get closer to your children.
The ultimate aim of child-rearing is to bring them up so that they will be able to live independently.
Happy parenting!

10 Ways to Get Extra Cash
Extra Cash |
Where do you get extra cash when you have exhausted your emergency fund?
Look into your own sources of the fund before you get outside help:
- Children’s savings accounts: Here is a good source of funds that you can tap into quickly with no hassle.
- Your fixed deposit: Here is yet another source of quick cash but you have to sacrifice your interest income for premature withdrawal.
- Cash value of your insurance policies: You don't have to surrender a policy, but you just get a loan against the cash value. You can get your cash in just a few days. You can also redeem your investment-linked insurance policy just like you liquidate your unit trust. There is no need to make repayment
- Sell your investment: Dispose of part of your shares or your unit trust holding to meet your cash requirements
- Pawn your valuables: Another quick way to get cash is to pawn your gold rings, gold chains, gold coins, or other valuables but don't let your friends or relatives spot you at the pawnshop.
- Cash advance from your company: You can get your salary advance without interest easily from the place where you work.
- Credit card advance: You will definitely incur substantial interest but it is a quick source of cash and is better than getting the money from Ah Long or a loan shark
- Borrow from your friends and relatives: You have to be thick-skinned and it may not look good for you financially but what to do when you need the cash. Perhaps you can be kind enough to repay the loan with an extra amount to make your lenders happy.
- Personal loan or a secured loan from the bank: It may not be as fast as you think but it is a way to secure the needed sum. You may not require collateral for a personal loan but you can secure an overdraft facility with your own house.
- Loan shark: This is the last resort. If you can, avoid it. If you must borrow, make very sure that you pay back promptly or the debt will be snowballed into a sum beyond your means to settle and that is the beginning of your nightmare.
One good thing about getting a loan from financial institutions is that you can establish your creditworthiness by making timely repayments. You are better than someone with no credit history

10 Office Efficiency Tips
- To-do list: This list should be prepared on the evening of the previous day. The plus point is that you can go to bed with ease of mind because you have already taken care of the things to be done the following day. The other good point is that the next day you can go straight to work without wasting any time
- To-do file or follow-up file: It is a file similar in nature to your daily to-do list. The things to be done in the file are mostly recurring at fixed dates. It has two sections. One section is divided into 31 slots to cover 31 days of each month. The other section has twelve slots for twelve months in a year. At the end of a month, say, December, you transfer and file items relating to January into their respective dates. Upon completion of the to-do list for the day it is, again, filed in the January folder and ready to be used next year. This file complements your daily to-do list. You don’t have to remember the things you have to do but you will get things done by checking the file every day.
- Keep your desk neat and tidy: A cluttered desk gives an impression to others that you are not organized. You work better with only items relating to the task at hand. A clean desk gives you a feeling of calmness. A desk full of files and documents makes you feel stressful
- Effective filing system: Proper filing means you are able to retrieve a document easily and quickly when needed. A thick file with related documents is better than keeping related papers in many individual files
- Handle a document only once: Go through the in-tray quickly means going through the documents only once. By looking at each document decide at once to file, to reply or to act on it in due course.
- A time frame to complete a task: According to Parkinson’s Law, “Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.” It is prudent to set a deadline to complete a task. You avoid procrastination and you get things done in less time.
- Do the most important task in the morning: By looking at the to-do list for the day, tackle the most important task in the morning. As your mind is fresh and your energy is at its peak, it is sensible and efficient to do the most difficult task first.
- Keep fit and be healthy: When you are fit and healthy it gives you the energy and the vitality to work efficiently in the office. Not only that, you are calm and able to concentrate better at work
- Handle interruption immediately: If it is something that can be done right away, do it immediately. Things like faxing a confidential document or making a copy of a letter. It can be forgotten when you decide to do it later.
- Delegate: When you delegate you have more time to attend to other important issues. Not only that, the person who is given the task is also motivated because he feels that the boss has the trust in him to do the job. It is a win-win situation

Live Life Fully – 13 Lively Tips
You only get one chance to live your life fully |
“Live life fully while you’re here. Experience everything. Take care of yourself and your friends. Have fun, be crazy, be weird. Go out and screw up! You’re going to anyway, so you might as well enjoy the process. Take the opportunity to learn from your mistakes: find the cause of your problem and eliminate it. Don’t try to be perfect; just be an excellent example of being human.” - Anthony Robbins
Life is short. Life is unpredictable. Do not despair; you can live life fully because you are in total control of your own life. It is up to you to live the life of your choice. Here are some tips that can help you to lead a fuller life:

- Live with your passion and interest: Do things that you enjoy doing and especially you are able to do it better than others. As for me, writing articles allows me to be creative and lively because my articles are able to solve readers’ problems and uplift their mood.
- Enjoy the outdoor: Go jogging or cycling. Breathe in fresh air. Bathe under the setting sun. When you enjoy the outdoor you are also looking after your health and fitness
- Be curious and inquisitive: Be like a little boy who is very interested to know everything under the sun. A quest for knowledge is a never-ending process. It stimulates your mind and gets you the power to be creative
- Take delight in every moment of your life: Slow down to enjoy whatever that you are doing. Eat slowly to savor each mouthful. Stop by the river to marvel at the full moon. Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain. Be observant to capture the beauty of nature.
- Spread kindness around: Smile at people you meet. Say a few kind words to people who serve you. Your kind gesture will be appreciated and you will be happy as well
- Be financially independent: Having sufficient funds means you can enjoy the material life you want. And more importantly, you will not have money problems
- Happy at work: You may not like the work that you do, but just think of it; it is where you get your paycheck every month to support you and your family. Holding a full-time job impacts your self-image positively.
- Connect with friends: Strike a lively conversation among friends. Crack a few jokes to laugh out loud.
- Be yourself: Love yourself as what you are. Accept your strengths and weaknesses. Nobody is perfect. Express yourself freely; do not worry about what others think about you.
- Love your family: Spread your love for every member of your family. When they are happy you are happy too and life is meaningful and wonderful.
- Be happy: Happiness is from within. Just be happy and you will develop more positive emotions like self-confidence, enthusiasm, and optimism.
- Appreciate things of beauty: Develop in your admiration of the finer things in life such as poems, work of art, and music. Visit the museums, art galleries, and attend classical music concerts. A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
Remember that you only live once. While you are alive and kicking why not live life to the fullest?
“I think the purpose of life is to be happy, to be useful, to be responsible, to be honorable, and to be compassionate. It is, above all, to matter, to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you lived at all,” - Leo Rosten (1908-1997) Writer.

Persistence – Success in the Long-term
Persistence |
A little more persistence, a little more effort, and what seemed hopeless failure may turn to glorious success. ELBERT HUBBARD
Success means going for the long-haul. It means you must be able to sustain your effort at least for a few years to see the fruit of your labor. How do you develop persistence?
- Interest and passion: One of the surest ways to maintain persistence is to do something that you are passionately interested in. Your passion will bring your full attention to it. I enjoy blogging and I am happy and delighted to write and post an article a day and I have been doing it for more than 19 months.
- Value to others: When you do something which is beneficial to others, you find meaning in it and it is a motivating factor to keep you going on. Like blogging, my articles are able to solve readers' problems and it encourages me to write more and better articles.
- Monitor your progress: It is important that you should be able to check your progress. When you see improvement as you go along you are happy and you work harder. For me, I am able to check the progress in blogging by looking at the figures at statcounter.com and the Traffic Rank. My self-confidence and my self- worth are elevated because my Traffic Rank is going up all the way. There are times when the Traffic Rank takes a dip but it does not affect me negatively. I continue to work on my articles.
- Take the challenge: Whatever you do, take it as a challenge. Succeeding at doing something by itself will give you satisfaction even without reward. Like blogging, it is very competitive. When my Traffic Rank is going upward I know I am doing things right. It gives me happiness, excitement, and delight.
- Rewards: Are you being rewarded for your efforts? The reward will spur you to do more and put your energy at a higher level. To me, my reward is the favorable comments by my readers, links to my blog, and subscriptions to my feed. The support from my readers is more than enough to stimulate me to carry on.
Success is not a destination. It is a journey and it is a long and winding road.
You have to stay on course all the way and success will be yours.

Think Positive and be Successful
Source:http://www.webthoughtspot.org/stories/positive-thinking/
“The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.” –Winston Churchill
After reading many books and articles about successful people, I have found out that the most important factor of their success is that they think positively and they feed their minds with positive thoughts. These positive thoughts create positive action and the outcome is a success. Why positive thinking can bring about such tremendous power? Here are some of the reasons:1. Self-image: They think highly of themselves. They carry a healthy image of themselves and they feel good about themselves.
2. Good habits: Once they have arrived at a decision. They do not hesitate; they swing into action right away. They don’t have self-doubt to hold them back
3. Belief in themselves: They are confident in themselves. When they do something, they believe they can get it done and they just do it. When they face setbacks along the way they take them as a learning experience and they move on.
4. Positive emotions: As positive thinking is a positive emotion it leads to more positive emotions such as happiness, cheerfulness, calmness, energy, kindness, friendliness, mindfulness, and patience.
5. Be themselves: They accept their own weaknesses; they show their true selves without feelings of guilt or embarrassment. They behave normally with no thoughts of what others think about them.
When you think and feed your mind with positive thoughts you elevate your self-worth. You project a positive image of yourself in your mind. You are confident in yourself and you feel happy.
Think positive to propel you to greater success.

Create, Establish, Maintain and Manage Your Brand
Brand |
There are 4 stages to develop your brand in the blogosphere. Here are the steps you should take:
Create your brand
What are your interest and passion? What are the things that you can do better than others?
What are the things that you always do without being asked to do? Answer these questions to discover and create your niche. As an example, my niche is self-improvement. I enjoy writing articles on topics relating to personal development.
Establish your brand
When you have identified your niche, the next thing to do is to establish your brand.
The best thing to do is to start a blog. Write and post articles about your interests. The subjects that you know better than others and you find it meaningful. Next, you create your profile at Google Profiles. You also add your profile at Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Plaxo. Be sure that your profile is consistent with your niche.
Maintain your brand
You should always update your profile on LinkedIn and other social media sites. However, the most important thing is to write and post articles about your niche on a regular basis. Consistency in posting your articles will boost the confidence of the readers in you.
Manage your brand
You should monitor your brand in the blogosphere by signing up with Google Alerts to protect your brand and your name. You will be notified, as instructed by you, say, on a daily basis, if your blog or your name is mentioned on the Internet. This is very important if someone has smeared your name you can quickly react by asking the site to stop it. On the other hand, if there are favorable comments about your brand you should also acknowledge immediately. As an example, at any time when my name 'Charles Chua C K' or my blog 'All About Living With Life' is mentioned on the Internet, I will be informed by Google. You can also do a search on Twitter to find out what others talk about you and your brand from time to time.
The most essential thing to build your brand is consistency. Writing and posting articles relating to your niche according to your posting rhythm will make your brand trusted by more and more people over time.
