Meaningful Goals not Resolutions for 2011

Goals

This is the time of the year that people make resolutions to coincide with the New Year. This year do things differently and effectively. Instead of doing resolutions, go for achievable and sustainable goals. Here are the reasons why:

  • Wish list: Yearly New Year resolutions are more like a wish list. It is more or less the same items year in and year out with no success in sight. You are too ambitious and the list is too long and after the New Year, your enthusiasm dies down.

  • Replacing bad habits with good ones: It is more likely than not that the resolutions are to replace bad habits with good ones like getting up early and managing weight. Doing too many things  at the same time is too much to cope and sure to fail

  • Goals: Goals are long-term objectives and not just for a year. It is written so that you can view it every now and then. Your goals are meaningful because it is crafted according to your interests and passion. It is achievable in accordance  with a time frame of your choice

  • One thing at a time: You adopt one good habit at a time. The first small step is your giant step. As an example, you start by reading one page a day. Develop it into a good daily habit and then gradually you read more pages every day.

  • Review yearly: Instead of doing resolutions for the New Year, you review your performance at the end of each year. Are you meeting your objectives?  Do you need to modify your goals? Celebrate your achievements and work smarter to reach your objectives if you are falling short.

Establish your goals and start the New Year with a bang. Break down your goals into yearly objectives, monthly and daily tasks. Start small, go slow, do less and achieve more.  Wish you a successful New Year.

10 Reasons Why You Are Not Getting What You Want Out of Life

Goals

Do you often wonder what you have achieved in life? Are you frustrated because your goals seem to be beyond your reach? There are many reasons why you are not getting what you want in life. Here are the top ten reasons:

1. No goals: Just like driving a car without knowing your destination, the worst thing in life is that you do not know what you want. So you do not know where to go and how to get there.

2. Wrong goals: As an example, you do not go for further study by following what your friends are doing. You do a SWOT analysis to find out your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to decide the subject of your choice. It is based on what you are interested in and what you are good at. You also need to find out the opportunities in the future for the skills and knowledge that you want to acquire. Will your expertise be obsolete very quickly?

3. No SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-limited) goals: Are your goals realistic and achievable? Do you know precisely what you want? Have you given yourself a deadline to accomplish your goals? Are you able to measure your progress? Here is an example of a SMART goal: I want the Traffic Rank of my blog to be in the top one million by December 31, 2010. My Traffic Rank at the moment is around 1,900.000.

4. Too many goals: Simplify your life and just concentrate on one very important one. There is a focus on 100% energy. As soon as one goal is reached go to the next one.

5. No plan: Have you put done your goals in writing. Can you see clearly the successive stages to reach your objectives? Do you know your daily, weekly, and monthly and yearly tasks?

6. Procrastinate: Do not allow inertia to get the better of you. Spring into action and start work right away by following the daily to-do list. Do it every day and soon it will be a good habit.

7. Not following your plan: When you don’t work your plan, you don’t get what you want. Think of the benefits of realizing your goals to motivate you to act.

8. Lack of consistency: Like following a weight loss program, you stick to your plan faithfully every day in order to see results

9. Lack of persistence: Can you continue to work on your plan for a long period of time? Goals are for the long term.

10. No positive mental attitude: Are you easily discouraged by obstacles along the way? Be confident that problems can be and will be solved. Life is not a bed of roses. Expect failures but bounce back and be wiser.

Do the things you believe in and are passionate about, you will get what you want out of life.

Power of Daily Goals

To-do List: Daily Goals
"If you’re bored with life – you don’t get up every morning with a burning desire to do things – you don’t have enough goals." –Lou Holtz

Do you have daily goals? Do you always keep them in sight and work on them?

Every evening I prepare a to-do list. Some of the tasks are one-off in nature and some are relating to long ranch goals and are recurring. I write them down on a piece of paper. On the following day I keep it in my shirt pocket. I look at it every now and then to cross out tasks that I have done and remind myself to complete those outstanding ones of the day. I give priority to those that are important. For me, one of the most important jobs on a daily basis is to write an article. When I am able to write an article a day it means I can then post an article a day. This is my daily commitment. However, it is a challenge to write for the readers and to keep writing every day.

What are the benefits of achieving daily goals? Here are some of them:

1. Daily goals achieved over time will lead to success in long-term goals: Your lifelong goals are done on a daily basis and accumulated over a long period of time. If you don’t take care of the daily tasks, you will not be able to achieve the ultimate goals.

2. Just do one or two important tasks to get optimum results: The rule of 80:20 applies. Do a few of the major tasks relating to your major goals in life will allow you to achieve more in a day.

3. A winning habit: It is the habit of successful people. Keep in view of your future vision and working diligently on the tasks at hand will ensure the attainment of your objectives.

4. Build self-confidence: The daily achievements will promote self-confidence in the long run as it builds into you a feeling of fulfillment and containment.

5. Focus: The daily tasks will take into account the shortfall of the previous day and it allows you to adjust accordingly to meet daily goals. It is easier to cover unmet goals for a single day rather than a longer period.

Rome wasn't built in a day, it is the day-to-day effort exerted over a long period of time. When you achieve your daily goals consistently and constantly, you will realize your dreams.

How to Set Your Goals

Goals

“If you want to be happy, set a goal that commands your thoughts, liberates your energy and inspires your hopes.”Andrew Carnegie

Success in life means setting and achieving your goals. Consider the following points to set your goals:

 1. One important goal: Instead of having too many goals, identify just one goal that can greatly impact your life. One goal means you are focused on it. Your goal is manageable and it is more likely to achieve.

2. A clear vision of your goal: Imagine and visualize vividly in your mind that you have succeeded in achieving your goals. These images or the thoughts in your mind will set in motion to realize your goal.

 3. A deadline: A goal without a deadline remains a goal. The earlier you set your deadline the more urgent it will be for you to pick up your momentum to work on your goal and the faster it is to reach your goal.

 4. Benefits of achieving your goals: If your goal is to lose weight the benefits will be better health, more energy, better appearance, and higher self-esteem. More benefits mean more incentive and motivation to achieve your goal.

 5. Obstacles: Expect obstacles along the way and be prepared psychologically to overcome them. A goal is not a goal when it is not challenging and easily attainable.

 6. Get help: Solicit those people who can lend you a hand. You may not be able to do it alone and it is wise to enlist the right people to assist you.

 7. Plan your successive stages: This will allow you to gauge and monitor your progress against time spent. Are you meeting your sub-goals according to your timeframe? Do you need to revise your plan because of changing the prevailing situation? When you know the benefits that you can enjoy when you have achieved your goals, you will work mindfully at the moment and look forward to each new day with high expectations. You will have no regret in life as you look back because you know you have wasted no time to make your dream a reality.

5 Tips to Achieve Your Goals and a Balanced Life

Goals and a Balanced Life

“Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them – work, family, health, friends and spirit and you’re keeping all of these in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged, or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for balance in your life.”

– Brian Dyson, former Vice Chairman and COO of Coca-Cola

Do you work long hours? Are you able to concentrate for such long hours and be productive at the same time? Are you meeting your daily goals? Have you neglected your health and your family for the sake of working long hours? Here are five tips to meet your career goals and maintain a balanced lifestyle.

 1. To-do list: Having a list of the things to do for the day will help you to be productive by attending to those tasks that are important and result-oriented. You avoid stress when you have organized yourself to work smoothly.

 2. Do not work longer than necessary: Working long hours does not mean that you are productive. It is possible that you are unable to organize yourself to be efficient and effective. The most important thing is to focus and accomplished the most important jobs for the day and ignore other minor issues. The only exception to do overtime is to produce an urgent report requested by HQ in the last minute.

 3. Your goals: Your daily to-do list is closely linked to your long-ranch goals. Your goals give you direction in life. When you have achieved your daily objectives, you are a step closer to your long-term goals. Your goals give you the meaning in life because they are your dreams and aspirations.

 4. Your family: You just can’t work long hours and thinking that your spouse and your children will be able to take care of themselves. Your family needs your tender care and love too. They are humans. Just remember that when you have a happy family you will also be happy at work.

 5. Your health: Your life revolves around your work, your family, your health, and your social activities. You need to spend quality time on each and every area of your life so that all aspects of your life can work cohesively as a whole. Looking after your health is one important part of your life that will affect other areas of your life positively or negatively. Spend time regularly to look after your health will pay handsome dividends in other aspects of your life. You will be energetic, calm, and happy at work and at home or with your friends.
