Meaningful Goals not Resolutions for 2011

Goals

This is the time of the year that people make resolutions to coincide with the New Year. This year do things differently and effectively. Instead of doing resolutions, go for achievable and sustainable goals. Here are the reasons why:

  • Wish list: Yearly New Year resolutions are more like a wish list. It is more or less the same items year in and year out with no success in sight. You are too ambitious and the list is too long and after the New Year, your enthusiasm dies down.

  • Replacing bad habits with good ones: It is more likely than not that the resolutions are to replace bad habits with good ones like getting up early and managing weight. Doing too many things  at the same time is too much to cope and sure to fail

  • Goals: Goals are long-term objectives and not just for a year. It is written so that you can view it every now and then. Your goals are meaningful because it is crafted according to your interests and passion. It is achievable in accordance  with a time frame of your choice

  • One thing at a time: You adopt one good habit at a time. The first small step is your giant step. As an example, you start by reading one page a day. Develop it into a good daily habit and then gradually you read more pages every day.

  • Review yearly: Instead of doing resolutions for the New Year, you review your performance at the end of each year. Are you meeting your objectives?  Do you need to modify your goals? Celebrate your achievements and work smarter to reach your objectives if you are falling short.

Establish your goals and start the New Year with a bang. Break down your goals into yearly objectives, monthly and daily tasks. Start small, go slow, do less and achieve more.  Wish you a successful New Year.

7 Tips to Keep New Year’s Resolutions

New Year Resolution

Character is the ability to carry out a good resolution long after the excitement of the moment has passed. – Cavett Robert

According to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, one of the definitions of resolution is a firm decision to do or not to do something. You may have decided to, say, give up smoking or exercise every day but how do you maintain your enthusiasm throughout the year? Here are some of the factors to keep your resolutions:

1.      Just a few commitments: Starting a resolution means forming a new habit. Committing to too many things will be overwhelming for you. The answer is doing less and achieving more.

2.      Maintain a schedule: To make your resolutions stick, replace a non-productive time like watching TV with a new habit like jogging. Identify a time slot that is convenient for you.

3.      Keep the benefits in mind: To keep you motivated, think of all the benefits of a new habit like jogging. You utilize the time wisely to keep fit and healthy. Moreover, an exercise in itself will boost your self-image and self-confidence.

4.      Meaningful to you: Another plus factor is that your resolutions should mean a lot to you. As an example, you embark on a course of evening study relating to your job. It means you will be more competent at work and you are helping yourself to gain a promotion eventually.

5.      Start a new habit and keep doing it daily: Forming a new habit takes time. In order to establish a new habit do it every day. Remember to take one small step at a time. You will slowly but surely get to where you want to be.

6.      Put them in writing and always be visible: Be reminded constantly about your resolutions Allow yourself to see them in a conspicuous place so that you are always aware and upbeat about it.

7.      Check your progress: Congratulate yourself when you are able to maintain your new habit for 21 days, a minimum time to allow a new habit to be firmly established. By then the benefits derive from the new habit will spur your effort further.

According to G.K. Chesterton,” The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective.

Start the New Year with a new you by keeping your New Year’s resolutions

My New Year’s Resolutions for 2010 in Blogging

Blogging

My Traffic Rank for the past few months has gone down tremendously. There are two things I need to do to arrest the situation in 2010. The two things are writing better articles and building more relationships. I have improved my writing skills but not as good as expected by my readers and I have not been doing much to get connected with other bloggers. It is high time I put extra energy into article writing and connection building.

Article writing

I may have improved my writing skills over the last two years but my articles are still not good enough to attract readers. The drop in traffic to my blog is an indication of the quality of my article. The other reason is that I have started a new blog and I can’t post daily like I used to be. That is also contributed to reduced traffic to my site. As of 2010 I will just concentrate on this blog and post four to seven articles in a week. I will have to put extra effort to write for the readers.

Relationship building

To be connected with other bloggers, I will

• Write articles and link more often to other articles of my niche.
• Go to other bloggers to make constructive comments on their articles.
• Make contributions at forums and talk to other bloggers to build a closer relationship.
• Identify good blogs in the same niche and add to my blogroll.
• Response positively when requested to share ideas.

There is one simple truth in this world; when you are not interested in others, they will not show interest in you.

Self Care

In order to face the doom and gloom of the current situation now you need to do the following things to get ahead and stay ahead:

 1. Manage your personal money well: Review your spending pattern and your investment strategies. Reduce unnecessary expenses and invest less in risky instruments. The important thing is to conserve your wealth.

 2. Invest in yourself: You don't have to spend money to learn new ideas in your area of expertise or study more about other skills that are required to consolidate your position in the office. Surf the net and pick up the subjects by reading the latest articles. You will become more knowledgeable and wiser.

 3. Exercise more when the situation gets worse: Be fit and healthy in this depressing situation. You don’t want to get ill and spend on unnecessary medical expenses. A healthy body promotes abundant energy and a positive mental attitude in you.

 4. Relationships: In this trying environment family ties are very important. Make your home life as happy as possible because you want to find peace and solace at home after a stressful day at work. Support and motivate each other will make the journey in life so much easier to bear. Enjoy a simple home-cook meal with the family members. Savor each mouthful. The quality of relationships is more important than the quantity of food.

 5. Don’t rush, live every moment fully: Life itself is already full of tension, don't aggravate the situation. Learn to slow down and enjoy every moment of your life like a curious little boy. Find joy and delight in every small thing around you.

 6. Keep your New Year's resolutions: Keep your goals constantly in view. Remember the benefits of reaching your objectives. . Determine to make it a success. You can refer to my article on Keep Your New Year's Resolutions - 7 Top Tips for further assistance.

 7. Be happy, be positive, be yourself, and be contented: Abraham Lincoln once said:” People are just as happy as they make up their minds to be”. Just be happy and change to a positive mindset despite the negative outlook. Accept yourself as what you are and be contented with what you have. When you make it a habit to do the necessary things, you are more likely to be successful to face the challenges ahead of you.

Keep Your New Year's Resolutions - 7 Top Tips

New Year's Resolutions

According to Alexander Dumas,” Resolutions are like eels - easy to catch, but hard to hang on to.” Here are the top 7 tips to keep your resolutions until the end of the year:

 1. Fewer is better: Choose a few resolutions that will bring you the greatest benefits rather than a long list that is not achievable. When you focus on a few areas you are more likely to succeed and reap your benefits.

 2. Maintain a detailed list of your resolutions: Put them in writing. A detailed list will serve as a constant reminder of your commitment. Display it somewhere so that you can read it every day.

 3. Do it daily so that it becomes a habit: For example one of my New Year resolutions is to do social networking. I only need to make one friend a day on Facebook, Orkut, or Twitter. Just once a day and in a year I have 365 friends.

 4. Review and revise your resolutions: Things and situations change after a while and you need to be flexible to revise your plan to achieve your goals.

 5. Keep a record of your progress: Congratulate yourself when you have made progress according to your resolutions and kept to your timetable.

. It’s OK to slack off: We are not perfect and you are not going to do things perfectly. Allow yourself to sidetrack once in a while and don’t feel bad about it.

 7. Announce your resolutions to the world: By doing so you will get the support of your family members and friends. For example, I have posted my resolutions on my blog so that readers know about them and I am motivated to keep it because I know the tremendous benefits that will bring.

New Year's Resolutions for 2009 - As a Blogger

New Year's Resolutions

Time flies. It is yet another year. I have involved myself in the blogosphere for more than a year. After learning from trial and error I am finally able to get myself around to do blogging easily. With what I have learnt in more than a year it took only a few days for my son to be noticed by search engines and other bloggers. What a world of difference!

Here are my resolutions for 2009:

  1. Write More Compelling articles: This is a real challenge. I would like my articles to be useful, interesting, and are able to solve the readers’ problems.

  1. Comment More: It’s a good way to get connected when you communicate with others. Another thing is that your comments can motivate other bloggers.

  1. Participate in forums: Now that I have learnt about blogging I should join forums to share my knowledge with others.

  1. Social networking: I will make more friends on Facebook, Orkut and Twitter.

  1. Reach out: I will continue, like I always do, to submit my blog to blog directories and feed directories. I will also bookmark my articles at social bookmarking sites and participate in blog carnivals.

The focus of my resolutions is article writing and networking because I feel that my articles are not punchy enough and I communicate very little with other bloggers.

I wish all the bloggers out there a very happy New Year and lasting success in blogging.
