10 Easy and Productive Ways to Improve Yourself

10 Easy and Productive Ways to Improve Yourself

Do your best, and be a little better than you are.
 Gordon B. Hinckley

Don’t compete with others, but improve yourself and make positive changes in your life. Here are the things you can do to improve yourself:

1.      Take the first step: What is important in your life? What one thing you want to change and can impact your life greatly? There are areas in your life you want to improve such as your health, career, personal finance, relationships, or family. Take one small step at a time, but it is a giant step when you do it every day. Choose wisely and make a difference in your life.

2.      Reading: Get into the habit of reading every day. Start by reading a few pages or a chapter. Reading is learning and it is essential to improve yourself and be more knowledgeable.

3.      Move your body: It is the surest way to improve your health and fitness. You will stay calm and work with a clear mind when you exercise regularly.

4.      Change your thoughts: Thoughts of negativity are depressing in the morning. Instead, think of your strengths and what you have achieved is the best way to start a new day because positive thoughts will generate cheerfulness, energy, and enthusiasm in you.

5.      Learn something new: There will be no improvement when you do the same old thing every day. Take up a new course or a new hobby like gardening or blogging. Improve yourself intellectually, spiritually, and physically.

6.      Start a new day early: Do you get up early? Be early and see positive changes in your life. You are in control as an early riser.

7.      Get motivated: Read a chapter of a motivational book or a few inspiring quotes in the morning. Every day you need to be motivated to face challenges ahead of you.

8.      Reduce TV time: When you watch less  TV  you will have ample time to improve your life in many ways. The time can be productively employed to change your lifestyle from inactive to active and improve your well-being.

9.      Do what you are afraid to do: It is one effective way to break away from your comfort zone. You will make mistakes, but you will also learn a lot along the way and be much wiser.

10.  Stay on course: The journey of life is paved with obstacles. Do not be discouraged by defeats and failures. Be confident and believe in yourself and go after your dreams in life. Do what you need to do. Determination and perseverance will get you success.

Improve yourself daily in a small way and over time you will be a much better person than before.

There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that's your own self.

Effective Ways to Improve Yourself

Self improvement

There are many ways to improve yourself. Here are some of the areas you can look into. There is no need to work on all of them, just pick one item to make improvement before moving on to the next.

  • Goals: The most important thing about goals is that it gives you a direction in life. It also gives you hope and something to look forward to every day. The wonderful thing about goals is that you can plan and organize ahead according to your objectives. Aim for a balanced life to take care of your work and play,

  • Change: Be open-minded and accept changes in life and be courageous to make changes for the better. There is no progress and growth when you do things in the usual ways. Look into how you get things done and how you can do differently and get improvement.

  • One thing at a time: Pay attention and focus on one thing at a time. Multitasking is counter-productive and affects your ability to concentrate adversely.

  • Living in the moment: Can you be mindful and enjoy what you are doing at the moment? Don’t think of the past, future, or anything else.  Happiness is living in the present.

  • Get rid of bad habits: Think of all the benefits when you replace your bad habits with good ones. However. To be successful change only one habit at a time at the exclusion of all others.

  • Discipline: Self-control is the key to personal improvement. When you have decided to do something, stick to it until it becomes a good habit.

  • Persistence: Don’t let setbacks discourage you from making progress in life. The road to success is paved with obstacles. Keep your goals in view and be strong and resolute in overcoming problems.

  • Excellence: It is not necessary to be perfect. Just do the best you can and make improvements as you go along. The aim is to seek constant improvement.

  • Money: The golden rules of personal finance are less material wants, debt-free, living within your means, and saving for the future. Go for financial freedom.

  • Time management: When you plan your work and work your plan according to your goals, you manage your time meaningfully. The key is to do less and get more done. At the end of the day when you have done well, have fun.

  • Solve problems: Adopt a positive mental attitude in the face of adversity. Be resourceful and creative in overcoming obstacles.

  • Responsibilities: You are responsible for your own happiness and well-being. Decide, act and seek improvement.

  • Connection: Learn to communicate effectively by listening more and talking less. To know and understand another person is to listen more.

  • Continuous learning: Progress and improvement are about continuous learning. Be alert to changing situations and to embrace new ways of doing things.

  • Work: How do you grow your career?  Learn more skills, be more productive and be happier at work.

  • Hope: There is hope when you seek improvement. It is a powerful force that keeps you going on. When there is hope, there is a way.

  • Peace of mind: Getting peace of mind is filling your heart with kindness, forgiveness, and happiness for others. Avoid negative emotions such as anger, resentment, and jealousy

  • Love yourself: Do you love yourself? When you do, you care and improve your health, well-being, and self-image.

Improve your business, your life, your relationships, your finances, and your health. When you do the whole world improves.

Seek Positive and Continuous Improvement

  Seek Positive and Continuous Improvement

When there is improvement there is progress. When there is progress you are motivated to seek further improvement. Life is a continuous process of making positive and continuous changes for the better. There are many areas to seek improvement. You don’t have to do it all in one go.  Just be focus and choose one area that means a lot to you so that you can improve easily and successfully. Here are the areas that you can seek constant improvement in life:

  • Improve your health: Are you physically active? Perhaps you need to improve the frequency of, say, jogging by three to four times a week instead of once a week. The more frequently you exercise the faster will be the improvement in your health, fitness and stamina. You will also notice the improvement in your energy levels, calmness and concentration at work.

  • Improve your work: The key to improvement is performance. Performance is about productivity.  Productivity is about efficiency and effectiveness in doing the right thing at the right time. Seek to work less and produce more by doing one or two important tasks that matter the most to you. Build and improve your trustworthiness by honouring your promises.  Improve your value at work by acquiring additional relevant skills. Improve the way your work by making positive changes. Seek also to improve the working relationships with your co-workers. Lastly, Improve your visibility so that your boss is able to notice your contributions.

  • Improve your attitude: Be more cheerful, confident and hopeful. Look at life more in a positive light and be more open-minded. Improve and change from pessimism to optimism. According to Francesca Reigler, Happiness is an attitude.  We either make ourselves miserable, or happy and strong.  The amount of work is the same.

  • Improve your cash flow: The goal of personal finance is to erase your debt and have a surplus fund. Seek to reduce and knock off your debt by living within your means. When there is a surplus fund you can then improve your financial position to have more emergency fund and more money to invest for many purposes

  • Improve your family life: By spending more time with family members you can improve the family ties many folds. Watching less TV and helping more in domestic chores are effective ways to promote a cordial, harmonious and happy family.

  • Improve your relationships: Seek more to be interested in others and look for the good in others. Listen and talk less. Complement more and criticize less. These are the ways to improve the relationships with others

  • Improve your thinking: Improve your thinking by being more creative to generate more original, unique and workable ideas to get ahead in your career and other areas of your life.

  • Improve your time management: To improve time management is to improve your planning and organization. The aim is to accomplish the tasks that you have planned successfully in a timely fashion.

  • Improve your know-how: It is about continuous learning for continuous improvement. Read and learn more to stimulate your mind and be more resourceful and knowledgeable.

  • Improve your appearance: It is not necessary to have an expensive taste in order to look good. You can dress appropriately and smartly to improve your look. Wearing a smile and greeting people you meet are great ways to improve your appearance. Be friendly and approachable. Talk in a clear and loud enough voice and sit upright to demonstrate the energy in you.

As a writer, I seek to improve my article writing ability. The better I can write about things that the readers are interested in the more readers will visit my blog and read my articles. What about you? Which particular area of your life do you think you need to improve urgently? Do it now.

Moreover, you start ahead of others in getting things done.

·        Be more productivity: Make changes and take advantage of technology advancements to do things more effectively and efficiently. Automate or use software to speed up your work.

  • A more active lifestyle: Make a change from your sedentary lifestyle and see a positive change in your health. Exercise every day to be more energetic and perform better at work.

  • Be more organized: Don’t be disorganized and get frustrated and confused. Get organized for simplicity and get things done smoothly and without interruptions

  • Go slow: Do one thing at a time instead of multitasking. Drive a little slower for a safer journey. Read at a slower pace to understand more and better. Work a little slower to reduce your stress and make fewer mistakes.

  • Give up bad habits: Give up smoking and drinking and lead a more sober and healthy life. You spend less and gain better health and fitness at the same time.

  • Think more positively: You are in control of your mind and thoughts. Change and think more optimistic about the future. Be more cheerful, upbeat and confident.

  • Listen more: Instead of talking more, listen attentively and be interested in the person talking to you. You will understand the other person better.

  • Spend more time with nature: Spend more time outdoor instead of sitting all day in front of your PC. You may get more information by surfing the Net but you will breathe in more fresh air.  Look at the winding river, the white clouds or the green field to appreciate nature.

  • Accept change as the norm: Be flexible and ready to accept changes with an open mind. Things are changing and evolving. People are progressing. Be alert to changes that are impacting your life.

What are the positive changes you can make to improve your life? Do it now.

To be effective, it is also equally important to express yourself clearly, precisely, and fully in spoken words. On the other hand, it is also necessary to pay full attention to understand messages from others clearly and fully.

4. Character building: It is about your reputation. It is about building yourself into a trusted brand. When you promise to deliver, you deliver as promised.

Self Acceptance and Self Improvement

Self Acceptance

Self acceptance is a virtue. You accept your strengths and weaknesses. You are happy as what you are. The weaknesses do not affect your self-worth or your self-esteem, you are confident of yourself

Self improvement means you get better in your life. You are more productive in the office. You are able to write more appealing articles. You exercise more frequently. You are getting better and better in every way with each passing day.

Does it mean that when you accept yourself you don’t have to improve yourself?

You are a smoker and you enjoy your daily puff. You admit that the habit is not good for health but you find the craving for a few sticks a day is something that you cannot give up.

You enjoy your favorite snack and a few cans of beer in front of the tube daily. You realize that physical activities are important for your obesity, but you accept that your current lifestyle is your weakness.

Self acceptance in the above cases does not mean you can ignore self improvement. If you do, you don’t really care too much about yourself. You allow your health to deteriorate. When you don’t care about yourself, nobody will.

The right attitude is that you may be obese, but you make an effort to exercise and take care of your diet and you make an effort to change to a healthy lifestyle. Likewise, you are conscious of your smoking habit and you are determined to reduce the number of sticks per day until you get rid of the habit completely.

Self acceptance and self improvement means you love yourself as what you are and at the same time you do your best to improve yourself for the better.

Self-Improvement in 7 Areas of Your Life

Self-Improvement

“The key to happiness is really progress and growth and constantly working on yourself and developing something.” —Lewis Howes

Even though September is Self-Improvement Month, you do not have to wait for this particular month to do it. Any time is a good time to improve yourself. Self-improvement does not mean there is something wrong with you that needs to be changed. The fact is that we all want to get better and better in every way in our life. Here are the 7 areas of your life that you can look into for further improvement or strengthening

1. Health: Do you need to improve your eating habit? Are you enjoying a balanced diet? Do you want to sleep early and get up early? Are you thinking of an active lifestyle- exercise more regularly? Is your life stressful? Learn to relax to reduce your tension.

 2. Career: Are you happy at work? Can you find ways to be more efficient, more effective, and more productive? Are you getting along fine with your boss and your co-workers? Are you developing yourself for career advancement?

 3. Money: What are your financial goals? Are you saving enough for your retirement and children’s education funds? Are you in debt? Can you manage your credit cards? Do you live within your means?

 4. Family: Do you find serenity and happiness at home? Are you getting well with your children? How often do you spend time with your children?

 5. Spirituality: Do you find inner peace? Can you get peace of mind? What is your emotion now? Can you generate positive emotions such as happiness, enthusiasm, and love? Is your mind filled with negative emotions like hatred, vengeance, and anxiety?

 6. Continuous learning: Are you constantly updating yourself? Do you find new things to learn to enrich your mind?

 7. Relationships: Are you connected with your friends and relatives? Do you get support from them? Are you giving to them so that you can receive from them?

Pick only one item at a time and focus on it. It is more likely for you to achieve than having too many areas to look into. Start with the one that is the most meaningful to you as it is the one that you are fervently interested and so it is so much easier for you to improve or strengthen. Happy improving!

Kaizen and Self Improvement

Kaizen
Kaizen

According to Wikipedia, Kaizen (改善,Japanese for improvement, pronounced as kaizen and in Chinese, it is pronounced as gai shan, it means change for the better) is a Japanese philosophy that focuses on continuous improvement throughout all aspects of life – personal life, social life, and working life.

There are many things that you can do to improve yourself and your life. Look at the list of things that you wanted to improve but haven’t got around to do so:

Exercise daily
Act promptly
Get organized
Improve efficiency at work
Be more productive
Generate more positive emotions such as happiness
Positive thinking
Spend quality time with family
And more…

How do you improve yourself in life? Do not try to improve too many things at the same time. It is overwhelming and making it difficult for you to succeed.

Choose only one thing that can give you the most benefits in life when you have improved. Take, for example, you know the benefits of getting up early but you are unable to do so.

Do it gradually by getting up 15 minutes earlier and then slowly make it to 30 minutes, 45 minutes,s and then one hour.

The daily habit will make it easier for you to achieve your goal. Moreover, when you are an early riser you instantly enjoy the benefits of it. You no longer have to rush about to get things done in the morning. You have time to plan ahead. You can exercise that you wanted to do so for a long time but haven’t even started. You can meditate and you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast that you have always skipped.

The benefits that you have enjoyed will, all the more, keep you motivated to maintain the momentum of a good habit of getting up early. The fact that you have succeeded in one area of your life will boost your self-confidence to improve other areas of your life easily.

Take action now for kaizen.

Slow Down to Live and Enjoy Life – 10 Joyful Tips

10 Joyful Tips

In life, we should seek quality instead of quantity, calmness instead of restlessness, and be restful instead of stressful. The fast pace of living is detrimental to our life. Here are the 10 tips to a balanced life for greater enjoyment, better health, and more peace of mind:

1. Be an early riser: Getting up early every morning allows you to avoid all the rush to get things done like sending your children to school. You can profitably use the time to organize the day ahead of you so that you go through the day smoothly and calmly.

2. Meditation: This is my morning ritual. When I get up in the morning the first thing I do is to practice a round of Tai Chi. This is a form of meditation in motion. Tai Chi consists of 108 very slow and continuous movements. When you do it and your mind is wondering you tend to do it faster. To reap the benefits concentrate your mind and soul on the movements. At the end of the session, I feel calm and relaxed and it set the pace for me for the rest of the day.

3. Eat slowly: Get away from your workstation and go out to take your meals. Sit down to eat and chew and savor each mouthful. When you eat in a hurry you could be overeating. It takes time for the brain to signal you that you are full.

4. Sleep: You don’t sacrifice sleep to do more. You are burning a candle at both ends. Sufficient sleep is essential to recharge your battery and restore your energy. When you get up the next day you are fresh and you can live the day fully and energetically.

5. Take frequent breaks: Have a break when you feel tied. Get up to stretch your body and walk about or enjoy a tea break in the afternoon. You will work better that way.

6. Go back to nature: This is a way to help you slow down. To enjoy nature you have to be patient, Go to the beach, look at the sea, and listen to the waves. Visit the county side, look at the greenery, and listen to the birds chirping on the trees. Admire the blooming flowers in your garden and study the snail crawling on the ground. These are some of the delightful things that you can do to take it easy.

7. One task at a time: When you have too many things in your mind you are not paying your full attention to the task at hand, you tend to make mistakes. Write down the things you are thinking about that you have to do later and focus on the current job.

8. Look after your health now before it’s too late: Don’t think that you can work continuously with no concern for your health. I have just heard of a hardworking guy who is forced to take rest, perhaps, for the rest of his life because he has suffered from a stroke recently. He thinks that a person should be busy all the time and laziness is a waste of time.

9. End the day well: Before you go to sleep make sure that there is nothing to bother you to enjoy a goodnight’s sleep. You have already taken care of any outstanding issues by putting them on the to-do list for the following day. Instead of watching your favorite TV, you go to bed early with peace of mind and you will be an early riser the next day.

10. Quality instead of quantity: Don't rush and create tension just to do more. A hurried life is damaging to your health and well-being.

Learn from nature and appreciate yourself. The sun rises and the sunsets. There is a time for everything in life and when you are doing it, be mindful about it, appreciate it, enjoy it and be happy.

7 Tips to Boost Your Self-esteem

Smile

According to the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary self-esteem is a feeling of being happy with your own character and abilities. Self-esteem is self-confidence, self-worth, and self-respect. Here are a few tips to boost your self-esteem:

1. Job satisfaction: When you are satisfied with your job performance it boosts your self-confidence and self-esteem. You should improve the quality of your work to bring your self-esteem to a higher level.

2. Physical exercise: You should be proud of yourself especially when you are physically active. Just look around how many among your neighborhood are a regular jogger or physically active. Keeping yourself physically fit will strengthen your health and well-being and indirectly it enhances your self-esteem. When I heard of people younger than me suffering from stroke, high blood pressure, or diabetes I feel proud of myself for being healthy.

3. Focus on your achievements: Always think of your success. For example, as a blogger, I am delighted that the more I write and post my articles to my blog the better is my Traffic Rank. I am totally thrilled and excited. Naturally, my self-esteem is elevated. Just remember to compete with yourself and not with others because there is always someone better than you.
.
4. Personal appearance: The way you dress tells a lot about your self-esteem. Dressing smartly helps boost your image and self-confidence and also your self-esteem. Always dress appropriately.

5. Develop your strengths: It is easier to develop your strengths than to improve your shortcomings. Your strengths are the things that you enjoy doing and you can do better than others. When you make a further improvement it raises your self-esteem to the next level.

6. Positive belief in yourself: You like yourself as what you are. A belief in yourself in what you can do and a healthy admiration of yourself will give more mileage to your self-esteem

Self-Improvement – 10 Essential Tips for Success

Self-Improvement

We all want to be healthier, smarter, wealthier, work more effectively and efficiently. Here are 10 tips that you can adopt to improve yourself:

1. Goals: You set goals to set your direction in life. Your major goals will dictate your daily activities. It is good to highlight here that you should set SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-sensitive. Your goals should be well-balanced to include your health, your financial situation, work, family, relationships, lifelong learning, and happiness. Establish goals that give you meaning in life.

2. Posters: One of the things that help reach your goals is to display images of the things that you want in life such as your dream home and your dream car. Every day when you look at it you are constantly reminded of your goals and the images motivate you to work harder to reach your objectives.

3. Quotes: Display motivational quotes at strategic locations at home or in the office is also another way to spur you to a greater height.   Let’s say you are always procrastinating, you can put up a quote like "Do It Now "or "Just Do It" to provoke you to take immediate action in whatever you need to do. Here is a good one on success by Booker T. Washington: ’Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles that one has overcome while trying to succeed.”

4. To-do list: Your daily to-do list is closely linked to your long-ranch goals. It is a wonderful tool. First of all, it is a reminder of the things you need to do for the day. It also gives you a sense of achievement as you cross out the things that you have done. Depending on which one works better for you, you may like to maintain two lists, one for work and the other one for personal items.

5. Reading and learning: Keeping yourself up-to-date is the only way to improve yourself in life. Make it a point to read every day such as books, newspapers, magazines, and you also surf the Net to look for more information. The more you learn and the more you know the easier it is for you to utilize the knowledge to realize your aims.

6. Annual net worth review; How do you know you are getting richer as time goes by? The only way to find out is to draw up an annual net worth sheet. It is actually the difference of what you own (your house, your car, your bank accounts, investment, cash value of your insurance policies, and other assets) less what you owe (car loan, housing loan, outstanding bills including credit card debts). If the bottom line keeps getting larger it means you are getting wealthier. Net worth is your tool to measure how successful you are against your financial goals.

7. Physical exercise: Keeping yourself in good health is an important part of your on-going goals. You maintain good health and well-being by regular exercise. Be sure to do an annual check-up to confirm the status of your health.

8. New places: Visiting unfamiliar places is one of the best ways to broaden your outlook on life. Learn the way of life from other races and get to know more about their cultures.

9. New faces: You gain some insight by meeting and talking to more people. By listening to them you learn one or two new things to improve yourself.

10. Meditation: It gives you inner peace and promotes your spiritual health. You are more relaxed, calm, and happy and are not easily affected by negative events. You can concentrate better and are more creative.

These tips create self-awareness and monitor your progress. You will know how successful you are in the most important areas of your life especially your health, financial matters, and happiness.

What can random acts of kindness do for you?

Kindness (Stock.xchng)
These are random acts of kindness:

Say “Hello” to strangers.
Smile at people you meet.
Say "Please" and "Thank you" to counter staff.
Greet someone on the way to work "Good morning.”
Before leaving tell the other person to have a happy day.
Compliment the receptionist that she has a nice head of hair.
Praise your colleague in the office about the dress she is wearing is very attractive and it suits her very well.

These small gestures mean nothing to you but they mean happiness and much more to others. When you bring joy and cheerfulness to the other person the positive impact on you is even greater. Let's find out:

Health: According to a study of 2016 church members, it was found that those who regularly helped others had better mental health and a lower rate of depression. Other studies found that helping people were less likely to fall ill from chronic disease and tended to have better immune systems. Kindness also regulates emotions.

Kindness begets kindness: President Obama helped a stranger who was stranded at the Miami airport without money to pay a $103 luggage surcharge way back in 1988. She paid the $103 back to Obama the day after she arrived in Norway. In return, 2o years later, the woman voted for him and donated 100 dollars to his campaign.

Self-confidence: You build up your self-confidence because you have shown to yourself that you are capable of helping others. And it gives you a sense of self-worth and optimism.

Your own happiness: As the saying goes," Happiness is like jam, you can’t spread even a little without getting some on yourself.” Kindness enhances our feelings of joyfulness.

Relationships: By being kind to others you establish a healthy relationship with them.

As the financial situation is getting from bad to worse, we are now living in a world full of sadness and hopelessness. By spreading kindness around, we bring hope and happiness to others and we build strength in ourselves.

Spread kindness around.

What a fool I have been all these while without realizing that I have a blog on a niche subject. You will notice that I have changed my subtitle to read: Self Improvement in 8 Areas of Your Life: Health, Work, Personal Money, Parenting, Home Life, Relationships, Blogging and Happiness

8 is an auspicious number for the Chinese. It means prosperity. I keep my fingers crossed that this blog will bring fame and fortune to me. When you are looking for self-improvement, please visit my blog. Thank you and have a happy day.
