10 Worries of Parents

Worries of parents
“Encourage and support your kids because children are apt to live up to what you believe of them.” -Lady Bird Johnson

As parents, you have endless worries about your children. Here are the top 10 concerns and suggested remedies:

  1. Healthy children: Children easily succumb to various common illnesses such as colds and flu, fevers, cough, diarrhea, and vomiting. Serious problems can develop if they are not properly taken care of.
To encourage the healthy growth of your children, provide their psychological and physical needs.

  1. Do well in school: When your children are in school you are worried that they may not be able to cope with their studies. They may end up in one of those worst classes at school.
One of the ways to get a head start in school is to cultivate a love of books at home when they are young. When they are interested in books you can be sure that they will have a good start in school

  1. Mix with the wrong kind of friends: When the children are big enough to socialize you are worried that they may pick up bad habits from among their friends. Such bad habits are smoking, gambling, and loitering at the mall.
An effective way to deal with the problems is to get to know the friends of your children. Monitor and limit the time to spend with friends.

  1. PC and online: Another big worry is that your children may spend time excessively playing computer games at the expense of studying. They may also spend much time online at social networking sites like Friendster.
Come to an agreement with your children that study and homework come first. Limit the use of a PC at home. Teach the children about online safety.

  1. Enough funds to support them for their further education: Financial commitment is a real concern for parents. You want to give them the best education but you are worried about your financial constraints.
Personal financial planning has to start early to cater adequately for their higher education. The earlier you start to save, the easier and the more you can save by taking advantage of compound interest.

  1. Choose the right course to study and get admitted: Making sure that your children have chosen the right course for their higher education is another big concern.
Asking your children these three vital questions can provide a clue to what is best for them:
    • What are their interests?
    • What do they always do without being asked to do and they are able to do it better than others?
    • What are the things that they find meaningful in life and they feel is important to them?

  1. A good job: Can they get a job according to their field of study? It is a competitive world. A good education does not guarantee a job.
It helps for your children to be connected with the right people. Doing networking online and offline to know more people is crucial to land on a job.

  1. Able to find a mate: Will my son be able to find a mate and get married? He is spending more time in the office and he has no time to socialize.
Life can be fated. He or she may not get married. The best thing is to live mindfully and enjoy each day instead of worrying about the future.

  1. Stay happily together: Even when your children are married you are worried that their marriage may not last.
Share your experience and lessons in life so that they are better equipped to deal with problems in marriage.

  1. Will my children look after us: This is your last worry and the least worry.
Be happy that they have their own family. Hopefully, they will remember to visit you often. Let your retirement fund take care of your old age and be merry.
