10 Stress-Free Ways to Work Productively

Work productively

The smart way to work is to plan your work and work your plan and get things done without stress. The more you have to do, the more you need to spend time and plan ahead. This is to avoid getting busy but not productive by getting the wrong things done. Here are 10 ways to get more done in less time:

1. Advance planning: The best time to start work is at the end of your working day. It is the best time to plan your work for the following day productively. You know very clearly what needs to be done. You also know what the most important tasks are ahead of you. You will prepare a to-do list according to their importance. Leave this list on your table. A written list works better than your memory. It is because you will avoid overlooking things that need to be done. You will also avoid rushing to get something done and be stressed.

2. Start work right away in the morning: You will be productive because you waste no time and you can start work immediately because you already know what to do.

3. Do the most important and difficult tasks in the morning; Morning is the best time to do the most important and difficult task. Your energy is at its peak and your mind is fresh and alert. It is also a great relief for you and eases your burden for the rest of the day when the main task is completed.

4. One task at a time: You may be busy, but it is more productive to do one task at a time because it is not stressful and you are less likely to make mistakes.

5. Avoid distractions: Distractions interrupt your attention at work and disrupt your train of thought. Can you work without being disturbed? It is an important factor to work productively and without stress.

6. Avoid guessing: The smart way to work is to work once only. Be sure of what you have to do and avoid wasting time and doing it all over again. The key is to ask and clarify.

7. Mindful at work: To be productive is to work mindfully. Be interested in you what you do and think of nothing else. Getting into the flow of work is the way to go.

8. Take breaks: There is no waste of time when you take a break between tasks. A short break helps regain your concentration and energy. Have a cup of coffee to reward yourself for a task just completed. When you resume work you will be fresh and alert again.

No matter how much pressure you feel at work, if you could find ways to relax for at least five minutes every hour, you`d be more productive. ~Abani Roy

9. Lunch break: Working non-stop without taking your lunch break is counter-productive. Like taking short breaks, you need a lunch break to be away from the workplace. Get some fresh air and sunshine. It is good for you. Enjoy your lunch and eat slowly and be happy. When you go back to work it is just like starting another new working day. You will be full of energy.

10. Review and plan ahead every day: At the end of a busy and productive day, it is a good time to review your to-do list. Are you able to accomplish all that you have planned to do? If so, be proud of your effectiveness at work. If not, identify the challenges that you are facing and make changes to work more productively. Again, it is also time to plan your work for the following day to be even more productive with less stress.

Stress – 3 Effective Ways to Manage It

“Stress is not what happens to us. It's our response to what happens and response is something we can choose. ~ Maureen Killoran
"Stress is not what happens to us. It is our response to what happens. And responses is something we can choose"

According to the American Institute of Stress, stress is the No.1 health problem in America. There are three ways that you can deal with it:

2. Positive mental attitude in a
stressful situation

 ss

Stress prevention

  • Get up early: This is the most effective stress prevention measure. You don’t have to rush about to get things done because you have ample time to do what you need to do.

  • Day-to-day advance planning: Every day you get ready with your to-do list and you carry out the task accordingly. You will not miss a thing or else, without a list, you remember it at the last moment and you create tension by rushing to get the job done. In fact, early in the morning is the best time for you to plan the activities of the day with a fresh and clear mind, without being disturbed by others.

Positive mental attitude in a stressful situation

  • Imagine this situation: You are about to leave the office and your boss walks in and asks you to do an urgent report requested by HQ. Can you say ‘No” because you have committed yourself to pick up your children and go to KFC for a happy meal together with your spouse after work In fact it is a long overdue promise and you have made up your mind to do it today. When you cannot say ‘No’ you have to work overtime to complete the report. Under such a situation, what do you do? Be very angry and curse and swear about it? The thing is that when you have agreed to work overtime and the right frame of mind is just to do the job wholeheartedly because when you are angry about the situations it is going to hurt you even more and nobody else. Work the normal way to complete the task and join your family later.

Stress-releasing habits

  • Physical exercise: It is one of the best ways to release your stress and keep your spirits on top of the world.
  • Meditation: It gives you inner peace. It slows you down and you will do things in an orderly fashion.
  • A balanced diet: Unhealthy foods cause stress in your body. Maintain a balanced diet. Enjoy plenty of fruits and vegetables.
  • Sufficient sleep: Recharge and rejuvenate your body and mind with a good night’s sleep. The next day you are full of energy to deal with stress.
  • Keep a pet: A pet such as a dog gives you unconditional love so it is a good stress therapy.
  • Massage: Pamper your body with a relaxing massage.
  • Personal money management: One of the sources of stress in life is financial problems. Live within your means and owe nobody any money and you will be without stress.
  • Deep breathing: When you are under stress you breathe more from the chest and less from the abdomen. This restricts the oxygen intake to your brain. Proper breathing eliminates stress.
  • Creative outlets: What are your interest and passion? Doing things that you enjoy is a delightful way to unwind. Playing a musical instrument is a good example.     e exex.

You can prevent stress by getting up early and follow your to-do list accordingly. Stress at work is the thing that you have to live with. At work, you reduce stress with a positive mental attitude so that you don’t aggravate the situation and make yourself even more stressed. The last thing is that your stress-releasing lifestyle will be able to deal with stress more effectively.

Have a stress-free day!

Malaysian Children - Their Education, Health, Safety and Stress

Children

According to a local newspaper, it is reported that whether we have our priorities right. Children are paying too much attention to excel in their education at the expense of their health and safety. It’s quite normal nowadays that parents wish to enroll their children in the best primary school in town and hope that they can have a head start in their education. But now you even have to book in advance a place with your tutor for your tuition for next year. Seeking educational excellence is going to the extreme.

On the other hand, the health of children in Malaysia is deteriorating at an alarming rate. Children as young as 7 are developing Type 2 diabetes.11 percent of Peninsular Malaysia children between 6 and 12 were overweight and 6 percent were obese (2000UKM study). This has to do with their eating habit and couch-potato lifestyle. Parents are giving in to their children and pampering them by allowing them to frequent fast food outlets. The unhealthy eating habit contributes to the growing trend of Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol level.

In addition, the safety of children is at stake. 8,000 children were missing in the last 5 years and three out of four missing children are girls, four of 10 children go missing after running away with peers or lovers. More than500 children were reported missing between January and May this year.

In the meanwhile, Malaysian children are under tremendous stress. They have to do well academically and they have less time to spend outdoor to develop a healthy lifestyle. On top of that their safety is vulnerable. No wonder 130,000 children suffer from mental illnesses and 53 children under 11 and 1837 above 12 attempted suicides in 2000. One reason is that both the parents are working and they have no time for their children. They have not only neglected their children but their lives are equally stressful.

Just spend some quality time on a regular basis with your children and it will make a world of difference.

Stress in the Workplace - The Sources

Stress in the workplace

When you are able to identify the sources of your stress you are able to deal with it more effectively. Here are some of the causes of stress from the work itself and the environment at the workplace:

 1. Working hours unpredictable: There is no proper allocation of workload and you are ordered to work overtime at short notice. When you do not do you are blacklisted. You cannot control your own time.

 2. Rush hour: Even with proper planning you are still caught with serious traffic congestion problems. The delay is unbearable and when you reach the office you are totally exhausted. It goes on day after day.

3. Workload unpredictable: When you are busy you work under tremendous pressure. But when there is nothing to do and you cannot do anything else, you are bored to death.

 4. Routine tasks: Like data entries, the work is the same every day and the work needs your full concentration. The chances of getting occupational illnesses are high. Moreover, the hope of getting promoted is slim. The work satisfaction level is at its lowest.

 5. Noise pollution: Piling work is going on near the workplace. The old air-conditioner is making a loud noise. Your colleagues are chatting away endlessly.

 6. Poor lighting: Working too long under dim lights tires your eyes and numbs your senses.

 7. Inappropriate working location: You work at a place where there is a constant movement of people. You just can't concentrate on your work.

 8. Air-conditioning: it is not at the optimum level. Sometimes it is too cold and at another time it is not cold enough.

 9. Workplace location: The place where you work is inconveniently located. Either it is next to a busy junction where the traffic is heavy or the place is secluded. It poses a danger to you when you come to work and go home after work every day.

Do you see your sources of stress here? What can you do to reduce the stress?
