You are hired |
1. Full-time job: Treat job hunting as if it is a full-time job. The more people you see, the more places you visit, the better the chances of you getting hired.
2. Identify your selling points: What are your strengths? What are your interest and passion? Doing things that you are interested in and able to do it better than others will be a great asset.
3. Further education: When you are interested in a particular field and you find that you lack the necessary skills and knowledge go and enroll in a course to upgrade yourself.
4. Tailor-made resume: One size does not fit all. For each application, you need a different resume to meet certain requirements. Be sure to highlight your achievements and your strengths. Remember to create separately a valued offer by telling the employer what you can do for them. State precisely but briefly how you can increase revenue, reduce expenses, or improve the image of the company.
5. Go to the people who have the power to hire you: The best approach is to go to the employer who is interested in your skills and strengths and make the necessary arrangements to see the person who has the power to hire you for the position that you are interested in. Before you go, do research on the company. The more you know about the establishment the better it is for you.
6. Friends and relatives: Give a shout to your friends and relatives that you need a job and ask them to be on the look-out for suitable openings. Talk to your former colleagues.
7. Get ready for your elevator pitch: Be prepared to say in a few words about your personal brand when you are asked to talk about yourself.
8. Willing to accept a lower pay: This is a strategy in a competitive market. You don’t have to worry about the lower starting pay because when you have proven your worth, sooner or later you will get back what you should be paid
9. Start a blog: This offers you a competitive edge in the job market. Writing articles about your area of expertise is an effective way to advertise and promote your knowledge and language skills.
10. Networking online: Improve the chances of your success by joining such great social networking sites as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter.
The time is not right for job seekers so be psychologically prepared to go for the long haul. Persistence will pay off.
