7 Ways to Use Technology Wisely

7 Ways to Use Technology Wisely

Technology is useful in our life but do not get addicted or distracted from doing what is important in our life. Here are 7 ways to use technology productively and wisely:

1.      TV:  This is something you can do without. Watching TV can only make you lazy, and be influenced negatively. There will be less communication at home among family members when you spend too much more time glued to the set. If you must watch, look for an educational program. The best thing to replace TV is books.  Reading is learning and it stimulates and enriches the mind.

2.       Smart Phone: It is loaded with too many features.  You take it with you all the time wherever you go and you waste precious time playing with it. It is wise just to have a normal mobile phone for its basic purpose – communication. Talk about urgent issues and send essential messages only.

3.       Social networking: It is good to take a break and spend a little time on Facebook or Twitter. However, do not spend too much time and drain your energy and waste precious time.

4.       Online games: Instead of playing online games endlessly, go outdoors and move your body for better health and fitness. Spend time with nature instead of the virtual world.

5.      Gadgets: Avoid getting gadgets you do not need. Just because others have it, you must get one. Select technology wisely and productively.

6.       Do not be distracted online: Be focus and go for the information relating to your research, homework or writing. Do not get distracted and looking at something else. Get the important task done.

7.     Personal Email: Avoid overloading of information by subscribing to many sites. Select those essential for your work only. Less email means less time to manage and more time for other important things.

Are you harnessing the power for technology wisely and productively?

7 Effective Ways to Use Less Technology and Promote Relationships

Use less technology and promote relationships

According to an item in the newspaper, researchers found couples in London were the worst offenders in the country, with 22 percent of people admitting using a computer in bed. Facebook is cited in one in five divorces, according to lawyers, while a survey by website Divorce Online found that the phrase “mobile phone” occurred in one in eight divorces citing unreasonable behavior.

How do you use less technology to promote better relationships? Here are the top seven effective ways:

1. Use a basic mobile phone instead of a smartphone: A basic mobile phone is all you need to communicate instantly verbally or in text. You do not need extra features like going online to surf, chat, or play games. When you spend less time on your mobile phone you will have more time for real people.

2. Watch less TV: This is another culprit that robs you of your time to spend meaningfully at home with loved ones. It creates laziness and is bad for your health. Can you do away with the idiot box to save your relationships?

3. Visit less social networking sites: To spend less time on Facebook and Twitter is to Tweet less and like less. It means you will have more time offline to socialize and build a real friendship.

4. Less online browsing, chatting, and checking emails: Have an aim in mind when you go online. Do what you need to do and avoid distractions like browsing, chatting, and checking emails. Spending more time interacting with your children to get closer to them is a much more useful thing to do.

5. Few or no online games: Online games can really waste your precious time because it is addicting and draining your energy. Reserve your energy for more productive purposes such as helping with your children with their homework or helping your spouse to do the household chores. These are effective ways to build a happy family and foster closer relationships

6. The right place and right time to use your mobile devices: There are day and night. So, there is a time to indulge in technology and there is a time to build relationships. A balanced life is a way to lead a successful life and sustain harmonious relationships

7. More offline face to face connection and interaction: When you use less of technology you have more time to build lasting relationships with loved ones. Do more real-world networking for mutual benefits instead of spending more time to get connected online. The person with whom you are connecting with may not what he or she claims to be and you are wasting your time.

1. Blog about what you know: Write about things that you are interested in and passionate about. Write on subjects that you are knowledgeable about and good at. This is to develop and build your authority and trust over time as you write more and more articles.

2. Be productive and get ready articles in advance: How many articles do you have right now ready to be posted: one, two or seven? The more articles you have in hand the better it is. The most important thing is that you want to avoid interruption in your posting schedule. When you, as an example, post an article a day, you have to keep to your schedule even when you are not writing when you are on holiday or unwell. Another thing is that you do not want to meet a posting deadline and write your article in a hurry and under stress at the expense of quality. An article needs to be written in a few sessions from gathering ideas, writing the actual article and proofreading it.

3. Use Scoop.it to notify major social networking sites: An effective way to promote your article as soon as it is posted is to use scoop.it to notify major social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. According to Alexa, more than 46% of my traffic source is from Facebook (upstream site).

4. Join blog carnivals to get inbound links: When you have a new article posted, another productive thing to do is to submit your post and participate in relevant blog carnivals. You will gain new visitors to your site. Incidentally the more links you get from blog carnivals the higher will be your Technorati Authority Rank.

5. Submit original articles to article directories and do guest posting for more inbound link: There are two more ways to get more traffic to your site. Send you original articles to Ezinearticles with a link in each article to your site. Readers will read your articles and then follow the link and land on your site. The other effective way is to do guest posting on other sites and attract readers who have never been to your site.

6. Comments on other blogs and participate in forums: Constructive comments on other sites are a good way to attract the blog owners’ attention to visit your site. Taking part in forums to offer solutions to problems is also an effective way to get others to notice you and visit your site.

7. Post consistently and regularly to your site: To sustain blog traffic, you need to post articles consistently and regularly like operating a retail outlet. Business must go on in order to keep your customers.

8. Keep on learning about blogging tips: There are always new things to learn in the blogosphere. Keep learning to stay ahead and be ahead. Learn and employ methods that are effective to attract visitors to your sites.

9. Display your Traffic Rank and PageRank widgets: Your Traffic Rank and PageRank are good measurements of your popularity, authority and trust. The higher the ranking of your site, the more influential will be your site and the easier it is to attract visitors.

10. Blog directories: submit your blog to blog directories. It is another way to promote your blogs and get other bloggers to visit your site.

To stay productive, focus on activities that bring you the results.

10 Effective Ways to Create a Positive First Impression of your Blog

You will never get a second chance to make a first impression. Will Rogers

According to BlogPulse, there are more than 164 million blogs in the blogosphere. Therefore, a visitor only spends a few seconds to look at your blog and decide to stay or move on. In order to create a good first impression in such a short time and attract the attention of your readers, here are the most important things to create a positive first impression quickly:

1. Know your niche at a glance: A visitor must know at a glance what your blog is all about without thinking. Tell in just a few words what you are blogging about.

2. White background: Avoid dark background to turn people off. Your blog should be aesthetically pleasing to the eyes and use fonts that are easy to read.

3. Allow a visitor to get what he or she wants easily and immediately: Don’t make a visitor think what to do next in order to read one of your posts. It has to be there right in front of the visitor. It is also important that your articles are written in bullets points and with keywords highlighted. Avoid putting ads inside an article. Don’t make a reader scroll to many pages to read one post just for your own purposes. Readers come first.

4. Your “About” and “Contact” pages: It should be above the fold so that a visitor can get to know more about you easily and contact you if necessary. Your photo should be in the “About” page.

5. Fewer ads: When you put ads everywhere, It is an indication that you are more interested in yourself to make money rather than looking after the interest of the readers. In the end, you don’t get what you want because you don’t give the readers what they want.

6. Easy to navigate: Make it very easy for visitors to go about your blog and attract them to stay longer.

7. No pop-ups: Do not interrupt and distract a visitor reading your article by trying to get their e-mail address with a pop-up. Readers will willingly subscribe to your RSS feed or give you their email addresses when they find your site interesting.

8. Provide a list of your popular posts: This is the way to attract a visitor to stay longer with more interesting posts to read.

9. Interact: It is essential to accept comments from visitors so that you can get ideas from them and build rapport.

10. Social media: Are there links to allow readers to connect and communicate with you easily at your Facebook and Twitter pages?

What are the other effective ways to create a positive first impression of your blog to visitors?

7 Effective Blogging Tools

Effective blogging tools

I think it's fair to say that personal computers have become the most empowering tool we've ever created. They're tools of communication, they're tools of creativity, and they can be shaped by their user. ~Bill Gates

What tools do you use for blogging, such as writing articles, getting images, copywriting attractive headlines, notifying others of your new blog posts and measuring the performance, competitiveness and authority of your site? These are the usual tools that I use every day:

1. Microsoft Word: This is the software that I use to input, arrange ideas and put them into a proper blog post. A tool is a tool and, it is up to the user to create words which are good for human consumption. It is able to check some of your errors but not all of your errors. A human being is still required to edit, proofread an article before it goes live. It is still a useful and effective tool to write articles.

2. Stock.xchng: Where do you get a constant supply of images to complement each and every article of yours without cost? Look no further and go to stock.xchng. When you are there, the easiest thing to do is to type the keywords of your article into the Advanced search space; you will be thrilled to find many images to suit your particular requirements. Just make your choice.

3. Google Analytics and Statcounter: These are the tools I use to measure the performance of my site. I get to know page views, unique visitors and returning visitors of my blog. I also get to know what my most popular articles are, where my visitors are coming from and what keywords they are using to reach my site. I can check my daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly data easily and many more things for free.

4. Headline Analyzer: How do I know my headline is impactful? Just go to Headline analyzer to find the Emotional Marketing Value of your title. The higher the value, the more attractive is the headline to attract the reader to read your article. By the way, it is free.

5. Ping.fm: How do you notify your social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and many more all at once when you have posted a new article on your site? Let Ping.fm do the job for you for free instantly.

6. Alexa Traffic Rank: This is the tool I use to measure the competitiveness of my website. According to BlogPulse, there are more than 163 million blogs in the blogosphere and I am happy to be among the top 0.3% (rank around 400,000) sites on the Net.

7. Technorati Authority Rank This is to measure the authority of your site according to relevant sites linking to you currently. It fluctuates according to the prevailing status of your blog by the number of links you have got. When there are no new links, your authority drops immediately.

Do You Know Your Subscribers?

Subscribers

Subscribers are the foundation and strong supporters of your site. They voluntarily decide and choose your blog and subscribe to read your articles regularly.  The articles that you have written are what they want to consume. They can subscribe to your articles by RSS feeds or by email. Do you know that there are subtle differences between the two types of subscribers?

RSS subscribers

1.      Instant gratification: They read one of your articles and they like it and they subscribe to your feed instantly expecting to read the same substance every day.

2.      Unsubscribe instantly: When they read the next article on their feeds and do not find the same subject that they like, they immediately unsubscribe. It is the main reason that your RSS subscribers are like riding a roller coaster. It goes up in big numbers in one day and they come down in just as big numbers in the following day.

3.      Privacy: They want privacy and they do not wish to disclose their communication channel to you. They choose RSS

4.      More subscribers: More people choose RSS feeds because they can read everything in one place and you will find that you have more subscribers in this category. Do not be surprised when you find the numbers going up and down drastically.

Email subscribers

1.      Get to know your site well: They take a good hard look at your site to know more about what you can offer them. They are careful people.

2.      Trust: After the survey, when they know it is a site that can be trusted, they will go ahead and subscribe to your articles via emails.

Trust is won not given. ~Tobsha Learner

3.      Stay with you: When they subscribe to read your articles they stay with you and they don’t go away quickly. Your subscribers increase slowly but surely.

4.      Fewer subscribers: Not many people want to share their email addresses, so there are fewer email subscribers as compared to RSS subscribers.

I have a few subscribers but I have learnt a lot of the psychological make-up of the two types of subscribers. What is your view?

7 Effective Ways to be Trusted Online

To be trusted is a greater compliment than being loved.
George MacDonald

Building trust online is no different from gaining the confidence of the customers of your business in the real world. There are several factors to build and establish trust in what you do.

1.       Established: How long has your site being online? The longer you have established your blog on the Net, the more trust you will gain from the readers. To sustain your presence online you need to be passionate about what you do and be good at it. Time is an important factor to consider the trustworthiness of your site.

2.       Authority: You have to earn the trust of others in you. Building authority is the way to gain the trust of the readers online. Your Technorati Authority and ranking of your site are proof of trust in what you have written. Your Traffic Rank and PageRank are also a solid indication of your authority. The most important thing is to find out how many relevant and authoritative sites are linking to you and how many and how often people come to your site. It is an effective measurement of your authority. Show your Website Grade and Ezine Expert Author widgets to compliment your authority.

3.       First impression: Make it easy for the readers to look for your articles and read them. The most important thing is that they don’t have to think about what to do in order to get what they want. Allow the readers to read your articles in one go without being distracted by advertisements and the need to click more pages to continue reading an article. Simple and easy navigation of your site is a key factor to be trusted.

4.       Write for the readers: Provide solutions and solving readers’ problems are the main objective of your site. It is in this respect that you gain the trust of the readers in you and your site.

5.       Niche: This is the area of your interest and more importantly, your expertise. Your articles should be written within your niche and not something else because your readers think that your site, as the domain name suggests, meets their requirements and they expect you to deliver the goods. Be focused on your niche.

6.       About page: Your “About” page is not to talk more about yourself but what you can offer to the readers. The readers want to know what you can offer them with evidence to show you can deliver. This is the place to show proof of your expertise and authority to gain the trust of the readers.

7.       Consistency: Like a bricks-and-mortar business, you post your articles regularly and consistently. If it is to be posted daily, it should be online every day at the same time, just like you open your office on the dot at 9 every morning. Regularity will turn on the readers as they trust you and expect to see a new article every day at the usual time.

Trust is like a mirror once broken you never look at in the same way again.
