10 Simple, Easy and Effective Ways to Stay Healthy and Prevent Cancer
Health is the thing that makes you feel that now is the best time of the year. ~Franklin P. Adams
To stay healthy and prevent cancer is to adopt healthy habits and live a healthy lifestyle. Here are some simple, easy, and effective ways to stay healthy and avoid cancer:
1. Healthy beverages: Up to 60% of our body weight is made up of water. It is naturally essential to drink water throughout the day to keep our bodies hydrated. Drinking insufficient water is one of the causes of cancer. When I am thirsty I go for a glass of water with honey added. It is not only a thirst-quenching drink but honey is anti-cancer as well. Soy milk, which derives from soybeans, is rich in protein and very beneficial to health and effective to prevent cancer. Green tea is another healthy beverage that contains antioxidant properties and acts against cancer cells. Drink daily and drink often for health and prevent cancer.
2. Sleep and rest: When you sleep less than six hours, you are more likely to get colon cancer apart from diabetes and obesity, according to researcher Dr. Li Li of the University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland. So, sleep by 11.00 p.m. and get up at 6 or 7 o’clock. You can also take a nap around 1.00 p.m. to boost your immune system against cancer.
3. Food: Avoid junk food, preserved and processed foods, and sugar (acidic food). Consume more fruits and vegetables; these are alkaline and anticancer foods with lots of antioxidants.
4. Physically active: Do you know just by walking every day you will reduce the chances of getting cancer? About 10,000 cases of breast and bowel cancer could be prevented each year in the UK if people did more brisk walking, claim experts.
5. Detoxification: An easy way to detoxify is to drink water regularly to flush out toxins in your body. You can also eliminate toxins through feces (at least 1 bowel movement per day), perspiration (exercise to sweat it out), and respiration (deep breathing exercise is good for your lymph system).
6. Supplement: Studies suggest that taking a multi-vitamin-mineral tablet daily can strengthen your immune system and prevent cancer.
7. Manage stress: Can you cope with your workload? Are you in debt? These are things that cause stress in your life. The bad news is that stress contributes to depression. It is important that you take control of your life.
8. Avoid bad habits: Give up smoking and stop drinking excessively. Change your habits and live a healthy life.
9. Avoid pollution: The pollution in the environment, such as air, water, second-hand
smoke is the main reason for the increase in cancer cases. It is also necessary to take the precaution of ionizing radiation. Ionizing radiation is high-frequency radiation that has enough energy to remove an electron from (ionize) an atom or molecule. Ionizing radiation has enough energy to damage the DNA in cells, which in turn may lead to cancer. Gamma rays, x-rays, some high-energy UV rays, and some sub-atomic particles such as alpha particles and protons are forms of ionizing radiation.
10. Under the sun for 15 minutes: According to researchers, to reduce the risk of multiple cancers, jog or walk under the sun in the morning or late afternoon to get sufficient vitamin D. The most important thing is to avoid overexposure which can cause skin cancer.

Is Your Body Acidic
| Fruits |
According to health authorities, you have to watch the following signs that your body may be acidic and they can lead to cancer and other serious illnesses.
1. You have no appetite for eating.
2. You cannot sleep well at night.
3. You don’t feel good when you wake up in the morning.
4. You are feeling tired all the time.
5. You can’t concentrate for long at work.
6. You cannot control your emotions and you get angry easily.
7. You feel cold and numbness in your hands and feet.
8. Your memory is deteriorating.
9. Your immune system is weak and you get ill easily.
10. Your gums bleed easily when you brush your teeth.
11. You get headaches, shoulder, and backaches very often.
12. You always get skin diseases.
The Signs and Symptoms of Cancer
If you get 5 or more of the above symptoms, your body is more likely to be acidic. You can check your pH by using pH litmus paper which you can purchase from your pharmacy. Void your urine in a cup and dip the pH paper in the cup. The normal pH of urine is in the range of 5.5-6. If it is below 5, your body is acidic.
The pH (potential of hydrogen) scale value is the measurement of hydrogen ion concentration. The ph scale ranges from 0 to 14. Numbers 7 and below are acidic (low in oxygen) and numbers above 7 are alkaline. The normal value of our human body is at a pH of 7.4. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment.
You can improve your body’s pH by avoiding some of the acidic foods:
• Meat (consume less)
• Alcohol
• Soft drinks
• Sugar
• Drugs and chemicals
• Processed food with additives and preservatives
10 healthy habits to avoid cancer
1. Eat more vegetables and fruits (alkaline food)
2. Drink water and green tea
3. Avoid too much alcohol
4. Avoid smoking
5. Take a multi-vitamin and mineral tablet every day
6. Manage stress
7. Control your weight
8. Avoid too much sun exposure
9. Exercise regularly
10. Do regular checkups and cancer screening

4 Pillars of Cancer and 4 Pillars of Well-Being
The other day I came across an article by the title of “The Four Pillars of Cancer”. It is stated in the article that:
1. 50 percent caused by POOR DIET
2. 25 percent caused by TOXINS
3. 25 percent caused by INFECTION
4. Unknown percent caused by MENTAL STATE
How do you combat the 4 Pillars of cancer? Apply the 4 pillars of well-being:
1. Physical well-being
2. Mental well-being
3. Spiritual well-being
4. Emotional well-being
Physical well-being
• Get moving daily to improve your stamina, strength, and suppleness.
• Take breaks between tasks to avoid stress.
• Pamper your body with a spa treatment or massage.
• Unwind by listening to music or enjoying one of your favorite pastimes.
• Sleep well at night in order to regain your energy and repair damages done to your body after a stressful day.
• Do deep breathing exercises.
• Eat your breakfast every day and enjoy your meals by eating slowly.
• Eat less but more frequently.
• Avoid junk food and the three whites (white bread, white sugar, and white rice).
• Avoid food added with preservatives and additives.
• Avoid acidic foods and eat more alkaline foods.
• Give up smoking and drink moderately.
• Drink a lot of water every day.
• Drink green tea.
• Eat more fruits and vegetables.
• Avoid polluted environment and second-hand smoke.
By taking care of your body physically and eating right you will strengthen your immune system to guard yourself against infection and avoid toxins. However, your mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being are the other three pillars essential to fight against the unknown factor of cancer caused by a mental state.
Mental well-being
• Think positively and be confident of yourself.
• Look at the bright side of things.
• Live in the moment, don’t think of the past regrets or worry about the future.
• Exercise your brain by continuous learning.
• Physical exercise is not only good for your body but promotes your concentration and memory as well.
• Do not be discouraged by defeats but bounce back. Be resilient.
Spiritual well-being
• Do yoga or Tai Chi to meditate.
• Develop a sense of peace and calmness in your mind.
• A clear conscience will promote a peaceful soul.
• Donate to worthy causes.
• Do random acts of kindness.
• Make the best use of what you have and be contented.
Emotional well-being
• Start a new day cheerfully and hopefully.
• Feel good about yourself and be happy.
• Be aware of your emotions.
• Able to control the outburst of negative emotions such as anger, resentment, and hatred.
• React positively to negative events; find a solution instead of dwelling on the problem.
A positive mindset and a healthy lifestyle are the best way to fight cancer.

World Cancer Day
The campaign slogan for this year’s World Cancer Day on February 4, 2010, is “Cancer can be prevented too.”
The World Health Organization has warned that without urgent action, global cancer deaths will dramatically increase from 7.6 million this year to 17 million by 2030. Each year, more than 12 million people were diagnosed with cancer. In Peninsular Malaysia, nearly 70,000 new cases were reported between 2003 and 2005. According to WHO at least 30 per cent of all cancers could have been prevented through simple measures such as adopting a healthy diet and regular exercise, limiting alcohol consumption, no tobacco use and protection against cancer-causing agents.
• No tobacco use: Smoking causes 80 to 90 percent of lung cancer deaths.
• A healthy diet and regular exercise: There is consistent evidence that taking regular physical activity reduces the risk of breast and colon cancer. High fibre intake (27g a day) is associated with 20 percent lower risk of bowel cancer, whereas red and processed meat increases the risk of bowel cancer, and a high intake of salt and salt-preserved foods increases the risk of stomach cancer. Evidence indicates that being overweight or obese (body mass index above 25) increases the risk of developing cancers of the womb, kidney, oesophagus, stomach, colon, breast (in postmenopausal women), prostate, gall bladder and pancreas. Excessive exposure to the sun or artificial sources of ultraviolet radiation such as sunbeds increases the risk of skin cancer.
• Limited alcohol use: Alcohol consumption increases the risk of cancers of the mouth, throat and voice box, breast, bowel and liver.
• Protection against cancer-causing infections: Close to 22 per cent of cancer deaths in developing countries and six per cent in industrialized countries are caused by chronic infections such as Hepatitis B or C viruses (which cause cancer of the liver), human papillomavirus (which causes cervical cancer) and helicobacter pylori bacteria (which increases the risk of stomach cancer)
About one-third of the cancer burden could be decreased if cases were detected and treated early. A healthy lifestyle is the best way to protect yourself from cancer

Cancer Prevention - Acidic and Alkaline Food
| Cancer |
According to research cancer thrives in an acidic environment and not in a normal, more alkaline environment. When you have cancer, your pH levels are low and your body is too acidic.
pH (potential of hydrogen) Balance
The pH range is from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. Anything below 7 is acidic (low on oxygen) and anything above 7 is alkaline. The blood, lymph and cerebral spinal fluid in the human body are designed to be slightly alkaline at a pH of 7.4. Cancer cells become dormant at a pH slightly above 7.4 and will die at pH8.5 while healthy cells will live.
Mild alkaline foods:
Fruits:
Apricot
Berries
Grapes (purple and red)
Pineapple
Tomato
Vegetables:
Beets
Broccoli
Carrot
Cauliflower
Garlic
Mushrooms
Spinach
Others:
Plain yogurt
Curry
Bee pollen
Green tea
Fresh fruit juice
Green algae
Soup made from water chestnuts with shell
Strongly acid foods (food to avoid):
Meat
Dairy products
Beef
Ham
Egg yolk
Soft drinks
Sugar
Alcohol (except red wine)
Drugs and chemicals
Tobacco
Acidic foods cause sickness, diseases and aging. Alkaline foods keep your body healthy and functioning correctly, preventing cancer.
