Are You Healthy Psychologically?

Are You Healthy Psychologically?

Are you feeling good? Are you happy most of the time? How do you cope with life’s challenges? Are you optimistic about the future? Are you happy working and do you get satisfaction out of your job? Are you getting along well with your spouse?  These questions are all relating to your psychological health. Psychological health is about how you live with life.

A direction in life:  When you do not know what you want out of life, boredom, and lack of energy set in. To get excited and welcome every new day, find out your goals in life. With meaningful goals, there is a direction to go forward and there will be hope and something to look forward to in life. Life is interesting and rewarding with challenging goals.

Be connected: loneliness attracts boredom and depression. Seek out those happy people and be associated with them.  A cheerful disposition opens your mind and you look at things on the bright side.

Positive mental attitude: Optimism promotes creativity and opens up many possibilities. You are more resilient to adversities in life and less likely to be depressed and worried.  According to Carol Ryff, a psychology professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, positive attitude orientation can actually keep life worth living.

Job: Have you got your career goals in writing? If so, you will focus on the big picture and find meaning in what you do from day to day. The most important thing is to do work you are interested in and good at. Happiness is doing what you like and enjoying what you do. Be happy and be satisfied at work.

Personal finance: Be resolute and discipline to control your urge to have more wants in life. Getting more material things is to spend beyond your means and get into debt. Having unmanageable debt is the surest way to affect your well-being adversely. When you fail to manage your personal finance, your self-esteem is also tarnished.

Family: You derive happiness and personal strength from a harmonious family unit. You will find solace at home because you get peace of mind and serenity at home. You will take along your happiness from home wherever you go, especially to your workplace.

Meditation: Do meditation to promote mental peacefulness and alertness. It is also a way to relax your mind, relieve stress, and cope with pressure at work. An undisturbed mind thinks clearly.

Exercise: Physical activities promote energy and energy enhances mental alertness and toughness. You feel good and you look good from the inside out

Healthy lifestyle: Avoid bad habits such as smoking and drinking. Without bad habits, you live a healthier life mentally. A balanced diet nourishes your body and mind.  Sleeping well and sufficiently is also essential to repair damages done to your body after a hard day’s work. A good night’s sleep renews your energy and refreshes your mind.

Have fun: Take time out to rest and relax.  Life is not just about work. Take along the family and go to the country and be with nature. Enjoy fresh air and sunshine.  Explore the wonders of nature and be inspired.

A healthy, balanced ego expression allows you to perceive a true picture of yourself and builds a solid foundation of security. A balanced ego expression would mean appreciating yourself not just when things are going well, but especially at those times when you slip backward. Appreciate yourself for whatever progress you've made, then use that energy of appreciation to move forward. To dwell in poor-me attitudes or pitiful feelings is inverted vanity. It's a convenient hiding place, but it's still vanity. You can waste enormous amounts of energy in inverted vanity, creating reasons why you or others are to be blamed for something that happened that left you feeling victimized and powerless.

7 Tips to Promote your Psychological Health

Mother and son
According to the Oxford Advanced Learners’ Dictionary psychological means it is connected with a person’s mind and the way in which it works. How do you promote mental health to preserve your sanity? Here are the sensible things to do:

1. Don’t dwell on the result: As an example when you prepare for an important exam, your focus is to revise and cover all the subjects well and do your best in the examination. You will not tell yourself that “I must get straight A’s in all subjects.” Attaching too much attention to the result will impact your mind negatively when you do not succeed in getting all A’s. It is a blow to you and when you cannot take it, it may lead to a nervous breakdown.

2. Health and fitness: Physical fitness provides a better cushion to face problems and setbacks in life with resilience. You think of solving the problems instead of the failures itself.

3. Reaching out: The fact that when you have a problem and you talk to your trusted friends to get emotion support is in itself already one way to ease the anxiety in your mind. Moreover, your friends will also give you ideas to deal with your problems. Don’t allow anxiety and worries to occupy your mind.

4. Positive emotions: Decide to start a new day on a happy note. Be cheerful and feel confident about yourself. Feeling good about yourself relaxes your mind and you go about the day calmly.

5. Avoid stress and pressure: Do not allow too much work to make you stressed and get on your nerve. Plan your day well by doing only a few important tasks. Take breaks between tasks to ease the tension in your mind.

6. Ability to manage your emotions: Be aware of your emotions and act accordingly. When you are in a bad mood you will not say or act in a haste. You will do it only when you are composed. Avoid outbursts of anger and frustration.

7. React to events positively: One such event is retrenchment. It is very stressful and your mind is filled with anger, resentment, and frustration. The most important thing is to get over the negative period as quickly as possible. Think of opportunities instead of job loss.

Life is full of ups and downs. It is important to adopt a positive outlook on life. If there is a will there is a way.

10 Tips to Promote Psychologival Health

Psychological Health
“Being able to be your true self is one of the strongest components of good mental health.” —  Dr. Lauren Fogel Mersy

Your mental well-being is just as important as your physical health. Here are some of the things that you can do to boost your psychological health:

1. Be happy: Happiness is what we always look for in life. When you are happy you get more than what you bargained for. You are cheerful, you look at things on the bright side and you smile at people you meet and they smile back at you. There is a wonderful feeling inside you.

2. Be calm and peaceful: Take up yoga or Tai Chi. This is meditation in motion to get into a state of calmness and serenity. A clutter-free mind allows you to work efficiently and smoothly.

3. Exercise: According to an article by Len Kravitz, Ph.D., Exercise and Psychological Health, physical activities help to manage depression, anxiety, and stress. Exercise also improves your self-esteem and positively affects mood states such as tension, fatigue, anger, and vigor.

4. Love: In another article by Bob Trowbridge, The Effects of Love on Psychological Health, it is mentioned that unconditional love and acceptance exhibited by many animals have a soothing and healing impact on children and adults. Many individuals who are mentally ill or just emotionally distraught, have found a kind of peace and solace in the attentions of an animal. The most important thing is to love ourselves. Pay attention to and acknowledge those individuals in our lives who care about us and spend time with them in a loving exchange of time and energy. He suggests that you touch someone you love. Hug someone you love. Allow yourself to be touched and hugged. It could save your life and your sanity as well.

5. Positive outlook: When you look into the future, what do you see? Do you have high hope and great expectations? Do you welcome each new day eagerly? When you think life is full of opportunities and possibilities you feel good about yourself.

6. Find meaning in life: What is your true calling in life? Do you find what you do every day meaningful? If you do, it means life is fulfilling and it gives you a lot of satisfaction.

7. Gratitude: An attitude of thankfulness and appreciation reflects in you a life that is blissful and naturally you feel you are supported and cared for.

8. Kindness: Kindness is an expression of giving. You know what you do brings cheers to others and you know you are being appreciated for your kind deed. Does it make you feel good about yourself?

9. Curiosity and the urge to learn: You stimulate your mental alertness when you continue to learn; get to know more and always curious about things. Your mind is working all the time and it sharpens your mental faculty.

10. Relationships: According to research married people tend to live longer and better than those who live in isolation. Someone to talk to and someone to share your sorrow and happiness are such wonderful things in life. A feeling of connectedness and belonging make life worth living

Mental health and physical health are a perfect blend of total well-being. Go for it!
