7 Positive Habits to Adopt

Positive habits to adopt

If you were to choose one habit to adopt in each area of your life, what would you choose? I consider the following habits the most important in the following areas of your life:

1. Health – the  habit of exercise

You are made to move. Inaction kills you. Daily exercise and walking promote energy, alertness, and poise in you. Besides, daily vigorous exercise such as jogging is an effective way to discharge toxins from your body through breathing and perspiration. You will live a better life when you move around more and avoid a sedentary lifestyle.

2. Work – the habit of working with your heart

When you work with your heart, you are enthusiastic about what you do. You enjoy the process of working and you are focused. You are determined to do the best you can to produce quality output. You do what is right at the right time. When you work wholeheartedly, you always seek better ways of doing things so that you will be more productive.

3. Money - the habit of savings

There is no wealth without savings. The habit of savings is the starting point to build your fortune. When you are able to save, it means you spend less than what you have earned. When you have accumulated substantially, you can invest what you have saved and grow your wealth. Savings is the only habit to get rich.

4. Relationships - the habit of thinking of the other person

It is your outgoing concern that touches the heart of your loved ones, friends, and co-workers. When you do things for your own personal interest, nobody cares about you. It is only when you are sincerely interested in others that you are able to gain their trust and respect in you. Give your best to others and you will get the same in return. Be good, do good, and feel good.

5. Mental attitude - the habit of positive thinking

Positive thinking gives you the confidence to live life. You will look for a solution when you encounter a problem. Positive thinking is looking at things from a brighter perspective. A positive mental attitude is optimistic about life because you are hopeful.

6. Emotions: the habit of just be happy

The ultimate aim of life is to be happy. However, happiness cannot be sought directly. It is a by-product of your positive thoughts and attitude. It is also about what you do to yourself and others. Thinking right and doing right is the way to happiness.

7. Spiritual: the  habit of counting your blessings

The way to get peace of mind is to be contented with your situation in life. It means you are not comparing yourself with others. You are happy with the way you are, but you have your aspiration in life and you are working towards it. Life is meaningful.

Effective Habits to Adopt

Sunrise

I find the following habits productive and effective. Do you have these positive habits?

  1. Get up early: There are beautiful things you can do as an early riser. You can marvel nature such as watching the sun rising slowly and turning the earth from total darkness to brightness. There is time for you to have a leisurely breakfast. You can also go about your morning activities without rushing about.  The best part is that you get things done way ahead of others. Psychologically, when you get up early you feel like a winner.

  1. Daily exercise: You get your energy and fitness from your daily exercise. You will be calm and collected and be able to perform at your best  under stressful situations

  1. To-do list: This is the greatest habit of productivity. You will know the most important tasks of the day and you get them done first thing in the morning.  The best to-do list is a short one. It is attainable and manageable and you are not overwhelmed.

  1. Write things down: An effective habit to reinforce your memory even without looking at it. The other thing is that ideas are elusive, it is gone if it is not written.

  1. Be happy: The best thing in life you can do to yourself is to make it a habit to be happy. Happiness attracts good health, good feelings and good luck.

  1. Be optimistic and confident:  The way to live life is to look at the bright side of things. Your feel-good attitude will promote a can-do mentality.

  1. Go slow: As you know more haste means less speed. It is stressful to do things in a hurry and more likely to make mistakes. It is also safer to drive a little slower on the road.

  1. Plan and organize: You get better time management, are more productive and get things done smoothly. This is the best habit to use time wisely and effectively.

  1. Spend less than what you have: This is great for debt-free living. This thrifty habit will go a long way in your life for financial freedom and peace of mind.

  1. Getting peace of mind: The way to do it is to forget about the past as it is dead and gone, and not to worry about the future as you have already planned and organized for it. Just remember that outstanding problems will interfere with your peace of mind. Solve problems as soon as possible to allow your mind to focus on what you are doing.

  1. Do it now:  This is the most effective habit to beat procrastination. Anything that is worth doing just does it right away or else it will never be carried out.

9 Ways to Jeopardize your Career at the Workplace

Avoid bad habits

Employers are looking for productive people who are able to do more in less time. A productive person is a trusted team player with a cheerful disposition who is creative in solving problems. In order to be a valued employee you have to avoid these negative attitudes:

  • Not punctual: You are always late for meetings. You think that being late for a few minutes is all right. It shows that you have no respect for others. Time is a precious commodity at work. Things need to be carried out in a timely fashion so that workflow is not interrupted. Do not be late for work. If you are unable to arrive at work on time it only shows that you don’t care much about yourself and your work.

  • Not creative: Don’t just follow the usual ways to get things done. Think and come up with better ideas to add more value to your work. Be curious and be innovative to explore more efficient and effective ways of doing things.

  • Happy with the way you do things: You have a closed mind. You refuse to consider and make necessary changes for the better. When there is no change there is no progress and so there is no improvement.

  • Behave like a Lone Ranger: Working as a part of a team is very important in a large organization. Each head of a department must work cohesively with other heads of department to run an establishment effectively and smoothly. There is no room for an individual to act like a hero.

  • Afraid to ask: You don’t ask things you don’t know and you pretend you know. This may jeopardize your work because you are not clear about the concept and it may affect the objectives of the company.

  • Not willing to admit mistakes: To err is human. Do not afraid to admit that you have made a mistake. People will respect your true character for what you are instead of pointing finger at others.

  • Low EQ: Do not pull a long face at work, always wear a smile and greet others cheerfully. Learn to know your emotions and able to control them. Get to know the mood of others so that you will approach them at the right time to get things done smoothly

  • A person without trust: Do not promise just for the sake of making a promise and cannot deliver. At the workplace, it is crucial to be trusted. The motto is promised to deliver and deliver as premised the first time and every time.

  • Reactive instead of proactive: You are expected to do what you need to do in your capacity as an executive If you are to be told what to do every now and then you are just a clerical staff, an order taker.

Get rid of all these negative behaviours and be a trusted and valued employee to secure your job.

10 Productive Habits to Adopt

Productive Habits

We do things every day habitually and it is good to distinguish between productive and unproductive habits and replace those which are not helping us to make progress in life. The following are some of the productive habits

1. Get up early: There are so many things that you can do when you are an early riser. An exercise ritual is the best thing to start a new day. The other important thing that you can do is to have your breakfast, the most important meal in a day. Morning is also a good time to plan ahead so that you can smoothly work from one task to another according to your to-do list. When you wake up late, you will be rushing about to get things done. It means you are applying unnecessary stress on yourself.

2. Be organized: Following your to-do list is the most productive way to get things done. You will do the most important tasks for the day and you will do the rest only when there is time available. There is no need to rush about as you move from one task to another in an orderly manner.

3. Just do it: Have the habit of getting things done right away. Plunge into your work immediately and do not allow distractions. This is a powerful habit to really get things done.

4. Read: It is a good habit to read and learn daily. Information and knowledge are widely available; just keep abreast of the latest developments to stay up-to-date.

5. Think and be creative: Don’t just do your work mechanically. Think of better ways to get things done in less time but no less thoroughly. It is interesting to challenge yourself to be more efficient and effective. You will value and appreciate yourself more when you are creative.

6. Network: Having a network of people with common interests will complement your expertise. A regular exchange of ideas is good for everyone in the group.

7. PMA: Develop a mentality of self-confidence. Even in the face of obstacles you will resolve and be determined to overcome the problems

7 Steps to Start a New Day on the Right Note

Start a New Day on the Right Note

Do you often get up on the wrong side of the bed or do you always start a new day right? Starting a new day right means you have achieved 50% of a successful day. A new day does not start at dawn. It starts the night before. Here are the ways that you can begin a new day happily with zest and confidence.

1. The night before: Have you got the to-do list ready for the following day? Planning ahead puts your mind at ease and you go to bed with a peaceful mind knowing that you have taken care of the tasks for the next day. Sleep early to enjoy the full benefits of a good night’s rest. Your body will be rejuvenated and your system detoxified.

2. An early riser: Sleep early means you will be able to get up early and start a new day to get the right things done in the morning smoothly.

3. What do you say to yourself: Say the right thing and you will act the right way. Say to yourself that you will start a new day with cheerfulness and confidence. Positive emotions vibrate a positive mental attitude and it is the most effective way to commence a new day.

4. Your morning rituals: Avoid the bad habit of puffing a cigarette first thing in the morning when you get up. The first thing in the morning when I get up is to have a glass of water. It is then followed by the usual deep breathing exercise, flexibility exercise, and doing a round of Tai Chi. The morning rituals allow me to start a new day peacefully, calmly, and collected.

5. Breakfast: Do not neglect your breakfast. After fasting for about 8 hours you need nutrition to provide the energy you need to start a new day. As an early riser, you will be able to enjoy your breakfast leisurely.

6. Avoid the newspapers or TV news: The most depressing thing to start a new day is to read the newspapers. The bad news (only the bad news is good news for the newspapers) impacts the mind negatively and zaps the energy in you.

7. Dress to kill: Dressing smartly to boost your confidence and project a positive image is also the right way to start a brand new day

When you have warmed up yourself for a new day you have won 50% of the battle and you will go through the day with the right frame of mind.

Do It Now – A Wonderful Habit

Do it Now

“If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you’ll never get it done.” ~ Bruce Lee

When an opportunity presents itself do you grab it immediately and act on it or you delay and allow your enthusiasm to die off? When there is something to do and you know it is beneficial to you, do you do it at once or you tell yourself to wait?

When it is time to exercise, don’t tell yourself that the weather is gloomy and it is going to rain. Change to your jogging shoes immediately and start jogging.

When you are thinking of writing a thank you letter to someone who has just done a great favor to you, don’t wait until this evening. Send an email right away or else your appreciation will never be heard.

When the children are free and you are at home with nothing else to do, take them to the park or to the shopping mall. Have a good time with your children; you never know when you can do it the next time.

When you are busy in the office and you get a request to fax a certain document. Do it right away. It just takes a moment of your time and you avoid forgetting to do it later and your prompt action is appreciated.

When you are requested by your spouse to help up in the household chores, respond right away, don’t watch TV anymore. It is a good way to kill your inertia and show your alertness.

Where there is nothing to lose by TRYING, And a great deal to gain if SUCCESSFUL, by all means, TRY. DO IT NOW - W. Clement stone
