10 Things an Employee Wants

What does an employee want from an employer? These are the ten most important things for an employee.
1. Encouragement: Positive words are a source of motivation for an employee. He or she knows that they are doing right because positive words mean confirmation and approval.
Management is nothing more than motivating other people. ~Lee Iacocca
2. Adequately compensated: Employees want to be fairly rewarded. It is an indication that their contribution is worth the expected compensation.
3. Be informed: It is important to keep the employees posted about the development within the company. Employees are part and parcel of the company and they are to be treated as such. It is a way to show that you care for them.

4. Feedback: Employees are interested to know about their performance. It is wise to communicate regularly with them to confirm the status of their work. They will be happy to know that they are doing fine or they need to know which area of their work needs to be improved. Employees need regular feedback to strengthen their confidence
5. Give credit for their accomplishments: Credit should be given to the staff if an idea has been accepted by management. Recognition is an appreciation of their achievement.
People may take a job for more money, but they often leave it for more recognition.

Customers
They are the life and soul of your business. Without them they will be no income to meet employees’ payroll expenses and all other expenses. Customers are to be wooed and employees must be sensitive to their needs. Customers are hard to come by and it is necessary to offer the best customer services to retain them, so that they will keep coming back to you.
Employees
Employees are to be motivated to do their best. They are the front line staff who are in constant contact with customers. When they are interested in their job they will go all out to serve the needs of the customers. Front line staff should be empowered to cater to the needs of customers so that in case of complaints and unhappiness, an issue can be resolved quickly and to the satisfaction of the customers.
Owners
They are the ones who invested a large sum of money to set up a business venture. They offer job opportunities and a career path for those who are interested to take up challenging jobs. They expect their business to be fruitful and is able to generate good earnings year after year.

As one of the top executives you are squeezed between the CEO. You have to ensure that there is a healthy growth in the business. You also need to boost the morale of the staff and at the same time you must be able to report a favorable bottom line to the owners.
It is interesting and vitally important to note that customers, employees and owners are closely connected. When you take good care of the employees, they will, in turn, look after the customers well. More and more satisfied customers will come back to you for more business. You, in turn, will be able to show a positive performance to the owners. Everyone is happy.

1. Offer more autonomy: Do not supervise too closely. Let the staff make their own decisions and encourage them to take initiative.
2. Do not intimidate: Workers will not perform well under too much pressure. It is more productive when you create an environment that makes it easier not harder for workers to do their jobs.
3. A concern for the workers: You are approachable and considerate of their feelings and are able to listen to their problems. In addition, you show your appreciation when a job is done.
4. Treat the staff fairly: Nothing kills the morale of the staff more than playing favoritism. Treat them all fairly so that there is teamwork among the staff.
5. Reward the staff on performance only: This sends a clear signal to the staff that you need to perform in order to be rewarded. Tie pay raises to performance rather than seniority.
6. Training and coaching: Establish a career path for the staff by providing on-the-job training so that they can be promoted within the company.
7. Staff recognition: Establish customer feedback systems to recognize employees who perform above and beyond the call of duty.
