Reductil , Toxins and Weight Management

As reported in the New Straits Times, anti-obesity drug Reductil has recently been recommended for suspension in Europe. It is mentioned that 11.4% of those who took it had heart attack or stroke. In Malaysia, there have been a total of 35 adverse drug reports for Sibutramine, the active ingredient in Reductil, to date.

Sibutramine is approved for the treatment of patients who are obese, have no previous history of cardiovascular disease and have been unable to lose weight through diet and exercise.

The fact is that most overweight people with excess fat are also suffering from heart disease and diabetes. How do these diseases come about?

Toxins

According to Rudy Silvia a natural nutritionist, when you body is toxic, toxins hide and embed themselves in your body fat. This causes your cells and organs to become sluggish and lose efficiently. The fatter you are the more toxins you can store. When the elimination channels (the colon, the kidney, the skin, the lungs and the lymphatic system) can no longer push toxins out of your body; they themselves start to get clogged. Toxins together with other body debris combine to form layer upon layer of material that causes narrowing of elimination tracts. In the end fatal diseases develop. Toxins come from the food you eat and the air you breathe.

When you start to lose weight, this causes fat to be used up in your cells as energy and causes toxins to be released into your blood stream. If you lose weight too fast, you will have excess toxins released into your blood and this creates a variety of unhealthy symptoms and conditions. For this reason you need to lose weight slowly.

Weight Management

Stevie Tan, a weight loss coach, who is running   the LeanFator programme, says that the key thing is to make sure you eat and drink only fresh unprocessed natural food like fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, chicken and beef and not canned and process meant products. According to him eating too much fried food will cause the body to produce extra fat to store the toxin. The other thing is that eating less and skipping meals are a sure way of putting on extra weight. When you restrict your diet your body will start to burn your “stored glucose” called glycogen and fatty acids in your liver and kidney. Once depleted, your body will start to burn your muscle for fuel called ketones, which makes your body acidic and cause you to feel foggy and lethargic. If you keep on skipping meals and eating less you will condition your body to use less fuel and once you start eating normally, you will add on more weight simply because the excess calories will be stored as body fat.

Lose your body fat the healthy way through sport and diet. Cardiovascular exercises like walking and jogging or other fun physical activities help your metabolism become faster and the faster it is, the easier it is for your body to burn fat.

H1N1, Obesity and Weight Management

Weight Management
Obesity

“It’s not just about losing the weight; it’s about losing the lifestyle and mindset that got you there.” – Steve Maraboli

H1N1

According to the latest report in the newspaper, the death toll from influenza A H1N1 is 67 as of August 18, 2009. The Health Ministry of Malaysia is concerned that the obese may be in the high-risk category.

Obesity

In a 2006 national survey showed that 43 percent of Malaysians were overweight or obese – excess body weight in the form of fat – with the number growing rapidly because of the increasingly sedentary lifestyle.

“The obese may find themselves in the high-risk group for all viruses, including H1N1. Obesity is also the road to diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic illnesses which reduces immunity,” Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said when opening the Malaysian Association for the Study of Obesity Scientific Conference on August 13, 2009. MASO advocates a healthy lifestyle as part of a comprehensive approach to weight management programs.

Weight Management

There are two approaches to control your weight. One is to exercise and the other is to eat the right way.

Exercise: While aerobic exercise such as jogging, walking, or swimming can boost your metabolism and weight loss, you need to do resistance training in the gym or at home to increase muscle strength and density, which in turn allows you to burn more calories faster. To see results you need to do at least three to four sessions a week.

Eating: Eating less but more frequently at a fixed time for each meal is the right way to have your meals. When you are eating at a regular interval you are training your body to expect food and burn calories every three to four hours. You boost your metabolism this way and you don’t gain weight. When you are eating irregularly or eat at a longer interval, your body does not know when to expect food and your metabolism drops to conserve energy. Your body responds to what it thinks is a period of malnutrition. Now you know why some people keep eating all day long but never gain weight.

Change your sedentary lifestyle and change your health for the better. Change your eating habits and change yourself to a slimmer body.

Weight Loss - The 7 Commonsense Ways

Weight Loss

Your body weight is determined by the number of calories you consume and the number of calories you utilize. To lose body fat you must eat fewer calories than your body burns off. Here are the 7 commonsense ways to lose weight:

 1. Do not skip your meals: While skipping a meal may reduce your calorie intake for that hour, it will leave you hungrier. You may overeat later. Also, when you skip a meal your metabolism slows to conserve your energy. When you lose weight too quickly for a few days, your body responds by conserving fat in the body, any weight loss comes from water and muscle. When you eat, eat slowly so that your body can tell you that you are full before you overeat. You eat healthy snacks like fruits between meals whenever you are hungry.

 2. Have a good breakfast: After sleeping for eight hours your body needs fuel to provide energy for the day. Studies find out that the more you eat in the morning, the less you'll eat in the evening. It's easier to burn off those breakfast calories than you do to burn off dinner calories.

 3. Irregular eating habit: Eating irregularly disrupts your body's metabolism which makes it harder to lose weight.

 4. Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fibre: Obviously these substances contain fewer calories than fried foods.

 5. Regular exercise: When you are active physically you burn off calories without starving your body and slowing your metabolism

 6. Stay calm and relax: When you are depressed or angry you tend to eat more.

 7. Drink Water: Take 6 to 8 glasses of water to keep your body hydrated. At the same time, it also starves off your hunger pangs.
