7 Ways to Stop Whining and Start Winning

7 Ways to Stop Whining and Start Winning

Winners possess a distinctive optimistic attitude towards life which whiners don’t have.

I.K. Otchere-Asamoah

What are you complaining about? Don’t dwell on it. Find out what you can do about it and emerge as a winner instead of a whiner:

1.      Change it if you can: Do not complain about a situation you do not like. Can you change it? Otherwise, learn to live with it.  Do the best you can with what you have and behave cheerfully.

2.      Focus on the positive: Instead of focusing on things negatively, look at the bright side and you will find that things are not as bad as you have envisaged.

3.      Look for solutions: Have a problem? Forget about the why-me attitude.  Be resourceful, find a way out and move on.

4.    Be responsible: When things do not turn out as expected, do not look for excuses, blame others or circumstances. Think of a different way to do it right and take immediate action.

5.      Focus on the present: Whiners like to talk about the past and complain loudly about it. The best thing to do is to leave the past behind you, start afresh and work enthusiastically towards your goals.

6.    Be Proactive: Do not wait and expect the best to happen to you. It won’t. Know what you want and go after your dreams. Plan for it, get organized, do the daily tasks, and enjoy what you do because the journey is more important than the destination.

7.      Accept failure gracefully: Accept failures as a learning process. It is one way to make progress and grow. Do not look at yourself as a victim and just wallow in self-pity, respond positively to defeats, and move on much wiser than before.

Winners will never whine and whiners will never win. In life, you have a choice; be a winner instead of a whiner.

7 Delightful Happiness Attitudes

7 Delightful Happiness Attitudes

Happiness is an attitude. We either make ourselves miserable, or happy and strong. The amount of work is the same.
~ Francesca Reigler

Attitude is how you think and feel. What do you tell yourself in the morning when you wake up? How do you react to events? How do you treat others? How do you live your daily life?   A happy attitude will definitely uplift your mood and cheer you up for the whole day. Here are 7 happiness attitudes to adopt:

1.      Gratefulness: An attitude of gratitude is a sure way to be happy and contented. Do you value your health and fitness, your job, and your family? Do you appreciate what you have? When you do not treasure what you have you may not be happy to get what you want.

2.      Positivity: Do you get up and welcome a new day with a good feeling? Do you look forward to a new day to get things done eagerly? Happiness is starting a new day with a positive frame of mind, taking immediate action, and doing the most important things. Happiness is also facing a new day calmly and confidently.

3.    Optimism:  You enjoy what you do every day because you are hopeful of making your dreams come true. You will work with your heart and soul and are proud of what you do.

4.     Smile and the world smile with you: Wear a smile on your face. It is the simplest way to be happy and make others happy too. Your cheerfulness will drive away all negative emotions.

5.      Problems or challenges: When you look at every problem as a challenge, you will focus on ways to overcome it. You will find satisfaction in overcoming obstacles in life. Happiness is meeting challenges in life resourcefully and creatively.

You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.
~ Brian Tracy

6.     It’s now or never: Happiness is living now or not at all. Adopt an attitude to focus on living in the present. When you work, concentrate on the task at hand.  When you play you are totally relaxed and carefree. Don’t regret the past and don’t worry about the future. Just do the best you can with what you have will shape a positive outcome.

7.      Enthusiasm: Get excited about your life. Feel the fire in you. Enthusiasm is the right attitude to live life and be happy.

The key that unlocks energy is desire. It's also the key to a long and interesting life. If we expect to create any drive, any real force within ourselves, we have to get excited.
~Earl Nightingale

Happiness is feeling fine and thinking good.

7 Negative Attitudes to Avoid

Negative attitudes to avoid

Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. ~Winston Churchill

Attitude is the crystallization of your feelings and thinking. It is reflected in your behavior, the way you react to others and things, and the way you get things done.  It is ultimately your habits.  There is no way for you to hide your attitude.  Your attitude is everything.

There are 7 negative attitudes to watch out for and avoid:

1.       Hopelessness: This is a depressing and dangerous attitude. When life offers no hope and there is nothing for you to look forward to, it means there is no meaning in life. It is necessary to find something that you are interested to do and develop it into a worthwhile activity. You will find meaning in life when there is something to do and something to look forward to each day.

When you have vision it affects your attitude. Your attitude is optimistic rather than pessimistic. ~ Charles R. Swindoll

2.       Fear: There is fear about problems and the uncertainty of the future. There is an uneasy feeling in you. Face a problem squarely and promptly and it will become smaller and easier to resolve. Live only for today because the present is the only time you can do something about the things that you fear in the future.

Do the thing you fear most and the death of fear is certain. ~ Mark Twain

3.       Irresponsible: You produce sloppy work; you do not care about your job or reputation. There is a couldn’t-care-less attitude in you. The most important thing is to take pride in what you do because you are what you do.  Build your brand to allow others to build trust in you.

If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude. ~Colin Powell

4.       Insensitive to time: You are late for meetings and you miss deadlines. There is no urgency in getting things done. Others are affected negatively by your poor attitude. Develop a do-it-now attitude and get things done according to their importance.  It is an effective habit and others will be appreciative of your commitment.

Time = Life, Therefore, waste your time and waste of your life, or master your time and master your life. ~Alan Lakein

5.       Carelessness: You pay no attention to details, you just want to finish a job quickly and get over with it. The quality of your work is sacrificed. Be meticulous in your work and check every detail to avoid omissions or errors. Your finished product consists of many small details. Take ownership of what you do.

Great effort springs naturally from great attitude. ~Pat Riley

Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude. ~Ralph Marston

6.       Insensitive to others: You do not acknowledge others and you are not interested in them.  There is a danger that you will be isolated. Get out of your shell and be connected with others. Take notice of others so that they will like you and pay attention to you.

Our attitude towards others determines their attitude towards us. ~ Earl Nightingale

7.       Not prepared: There is a lack of organization. There is no advance planning.  Things get done haphazardly and you are always rushing about at the last minute. It is chaotic and nerve-wracking. The wise thing to do is to get organized and plan ahead. You execute your tasks in an orderly manner, calmly and coolly.

If you fail to prepare, you're prepared to fail. ~Mark Spitz

To change your thinking is to change your attitude and your habits. Your new habits will transform your work and life for the better.

Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude. ~Zig Ziglar

10 Negative Attitudes to Avoid

Negative attitudes to avoid

You must start with a positive attitude or you will surely end without one.  ~Carrie Latet

Positive anything is better than negative thinking.  ~Elbert Hubbard

Your attitude makes a difference between success and failure in the workplace. Stay away from the following bad attitudes and make way for success to enter into your life.

  1. Fuming about problems: Do you get angry and curse when encountering problems at work? Look at a problem positively.  It is an opportunity for you to show off your capabilities and resourcefulness in getting a solution to it.  The ability to resolve a problem will also boost your confidence to deal with future problems.

People are not disturbed by things, but by the view, they take of them.  ~Epictetus

  1. Take shortcuts:  Do you take an easy way out in getting a job done? Do a job thoroughly so that you or others will be able to trace the steps that you have taken and follow up from there. Provide sufficient details or else you will not remember what you have done before.

  1. Refuse to accept changes: Do not be stubborn and refuse to look at new ways of doing things. Change means making progress. Do not be contented with the usual ways of getting things done.

  1. Cannot accept criticism: Look at criticism especially constructive ones with an open mind. Be willing to accept mistakes and make amends. This is the way to be progressive.

  1. Stop learning new things: Taking no interest in learning new skills or updating yourself is the surest way to sabotage yourself. Keeping abreast of the developments that are happening around you is the way to be ahead and stay ahead.

  1. Refuse to take on new assignments: Do you do just the bare minimum or are you fearful of doing new things? Taking on new assignments is a great way to do self-development and learning new skills. It is a chance to make yourself more valuable at the workplace.

  1. Avoid the boss: Keeping it to yourself and doing your own things is not the best way to do work. Let your boss know what you are doing and allowing him or her to notice your progress is the way to go.

  1. Reactive instead of proactive: Be innovative and take initiative to make changes in anticipation of likely events instead of reacting to things that will be too late to do anything.

  1. Vibrating negative influences: You couldn’t care-less attitude is affecting co-workers negatively.  Change your attitude and send healthy and positive signals to others.

  1. Negative thoughts: It’s not my job. It won’t work. It’s not my department. I am underpaid. These are some of the wrong thinking that affects your growth and success in the company. Change your thoughts to change your career and life for the better.

A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes.  ~Hugh Downs

3 Mental Attitudes you must possess to Deal with Problems

The Power of Mental Attitudes

Every day we are faced with many problems: personal problems, family problems, other people’s problems. The magic of the three mental attitudes will help you to overcome the problems gracefully, The three mental attitudes are:

 1. You have healthy self-esteem and you are confident about your abilities.

2. A positive mental attitude towards problems. Welcome problems to sharpen your problem-solving skills.

3. A keen interest in helping others to solve their problems.

The following incident demonstrates the three mental attitudes: Just the other day I received a phone call from my client. He told me to stop doing the accounting job by the end of the month. I did not say anything and I just hung up. The next day I went to see him. I sat down in front of him and I asked him," What do you want to tell me?” From there he started to talk about his concerns and I explained them clearly to him to relieve his worries. And finally, I asked him” Do you think there are any more problems?" He told me an affirmative no. I still keep the job. Had I approached him on the same day, things would be different. He wasn’t in a good mood and he was not composed to talk. Of course, by the next day, he was calm and more collected and was able to speak his mind clearly.
