Google and Superbrands Malaysia 2009

Google and Superbrands Malaysia 2009 (New Straits Times) The following are Malaysia’s top 10 favorite brands for 2009, according to the latest findings from Superbrands identified over 500 of Malaysian consumers' favorite brands across 93 categories of consumer products and services. The brands were then ranked according to the greatest number of consumers identifying the brand as their favorite.

 1. 100 Plus
2. Sony
3. Google
 4. Maggi
5. Panasonic
6. Shell
7. Gardenia
8. Colgate
9. Dulux
10. Honda

It is interesting to note that Google is the only online brand among the top favorite. For the rest of the brand, you can either eat it on its own or drink it or drive in one or use it at home but you can’t keep Google to yourself. Can You?

Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google & Alexa Toolbar and My Blog

Web Browser

Mozilla Firefox was initially released in 2004. It is a free and open-source web browser. It is currently running on version 3 released this year. Mozilla Firefox has been given quite a number of awards like CNET Editors’ Choice, June 2008, and Webware 100 winner, April 2008. One thing about Firefox is that it is only able to show the PageRank of my front page and not the inner pages.

Internet Explorer does not have this problem. It is able to show the PageRank of all pages. Internet Explorer is currently running on version 8. It was released this year and its initial release was in 1995. It is doing a better job of showing my PageRank but it can’t pick up my www.statcounter.com widget on my blog. What a shame! Firefox picks up everything on my blog. According to statcounter.com’s report, 58.2 % of the visitors came to my blog using IE, and 37.8 % using Firefox. The balance of the other 4 % is made up of Opera, Safari, and Chrome.

It is very clever of Alexa Toolbar to show a list of similar sites to the site I am browsing. Most important of all it shows the Traffic Rank of the website that I am visiting.

As for the Google toolbar, I have enabled the Page Rank so that I know the ranking of the site that I am looking at. It’s so much easier to assess a site when you know its PageRank and Traffic Rank.

As my PC is installed with Vista I can’t just yet add the Alexa Toolbar. I look forward to installing the toolbar soon.

Google Analytics and my Blog

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a very comprehensive reporting system for our blogs. From the Dashboard I can have an overview of the following:

 *Site Usage

*Visitors Overview

*Map Overlay

*Traffic Sources Overview

*Content Overview

Site Usage From the report, I can see the number of visits, page views, pages/visit, bounce rate, average time on site, and new visits. I can also read the report by day, week, or month and comparing two different periods.

Visitors Over here there is a benchmarking report which I like very much. It tells me about my performance by comparing to blogs of similar size. My site is better than the benchmark in average time on site but unfavorable in bounce rate, page views, and pages/visit. I think I know the problem; I had seven posts on the main page, so the average length of time on site was high and the bounce rate was also high. I have just cut it down to 3 posts on the main page. I hope this will bring down the bounce rate. You can even find out the network location (e.g. Telekom Malaysia Berhad and Singnet Pte Ltd) and their connecting speeds in this report.

Map Overlay I like the map. It tells me instantly where my visitors are from. I have the most visitors from Malaysia and Singapore follow by the USA and Canada

Traffic Sources This report tells me the total number and percentage of traffic sources from search engines, direct traffic, and referring sites. More than 50% of my traffic is from search engines. It means the use of keywords is very important to facilitate readers to access my site. The key words range from one word to a few words.

Content This is another important report. It tells me about the articles that the readers are interested to read. This will help me to write relevant articles for my readers.

There is another report used to measure business objectives under Goals. At first, I couldn't get used to the report, perhaps the information was too much for me to absorb. Now I can get the hang of it. It's a great report.
