Ringworm and Treatment

Ringworm

Ten years ago in 2009, I was infected with ringworm. I wrote an article about the effective treatment of fungal infections (https://allaboutlivingwithlife.blogspot.com/2009/05/ringworm-calamine-and-clotrimazole.html). Initially, I used calamine and found the cream infective because it was not the right medication. I then switched to clotrimazole and treated the diseased area of my sole successfully.

Recently I was infected with ringworm again. Immediately, I applied clotrimazole. This time the result was not as good as expected after a few weeks. In desperation, I consulted my family doctor and he prescribed Travocort Cream for me. This medicine contains two active substances, isoconazole nitrate and diflucortolone valerate.

According to information provided this medicine is used to treat fungal infections of the skin where inflammation (redness, swelling, soreness) is also a problem.

Upon my first application, the itch stopped right away. After a few days, it was completely healed.

Ringworm initially starts out as red or pink skin patches (or spots) that may be either flat or slightly raised. In this initial stage, the sores may be moist, but more often they're dry, scaly, and itchy. If you scratch the rash you may break the skin, which could lead to a bacterial infection.

Have you ever infected with ringworm? How did you deal with it?

Ringworm, Calamine and Clotrimazole

Ringworm

Recently I was infected with ringworm on my right sole.

Ringworm

According to Wikipedia, Ringworm is a fungal infection of the skin in humans and domestic animals such as sheep and cattle. Those that cause parasitic infection feed on keratin, the material found in the outer layer of skin, hair, and nails. When you are infected, you will find the affected area is a ring of redness. If it is not treated properly another ring will form beside the ring that has healed. I used calamine cream, initially, it was working fine but after some time it was not effective anymore.

Calamine

As reported in Wikipedia, calamine is a mixture of zinc oxide with about 0.5% iron oxide. It is used to treat pruritis (itching of the skin) such as sunburn, eczema, rashes, insect bites, and stings. It is also used as a mild antiseptic to prevent infections that can be caused by scratching the affected areas. However, I find that the cream is not effective for the treatment of ringworm and later I changed to clotrimazole.

Clotrimazole

From Wikipedia, it is stated that it is an antifungal medication commonly used in the treatment of fungal infections of both humans and animals such as vaginal yeast infections and ringworm. This is the right medicine for me. I was completely healed after applying the cream just for a few days.

Use clotrimazole for the effective treatment of ringworm.

Ringworm and Calamine

Ringworm

Recently ringworm appeared on my right sole. I suspected that I had walked bare-footed on my car porch. It was a small one and I ignored it. However, it soon developed into a bigger ring. I started applying calamine cream around the affected area. Soon the severity subsided. One thing to note is that when you stop applying to part of the affected area (which has healed) of the ringworm, it can flare up the next day. The best thing to do is to apply the cream fully to the affected area. The other thing is that you should not touch the affected skin. It’s infectious. I apply twice daily and it should be healed fully soon.

Ringworm

It is a contagious fungus infection that can affect the scalp, the body, the feet, and the nails. Because of the red ring that appears on the affected area, it is called ringworm and it has nothing to do with worms

Calamine

Calamine is a class of medicine used to relieve itching. It comes in the form of lotion and cream. When you apply the cream or the lotion it is cooling and soothing on the skin. It contains zinc oxide which has antiseptic properties. I find that it is effective for treating ringworm.
