7 Effective Ways to Declutter Your House

Declutter your house

It is human nature to take the easy way out and allow things to accumulate at home. Over time it has piled up to such an extent that it becomes an eyesore and it looks overwhelming to declutter the place. However, there are easy and effective ways to clear the unwanted items at home:

1. Start right away: The most difficult part is to get started. Just think about the benefits of a clutter-free home and peace of mind to motivate you to do it now.

2. Do it daily for just a few minutes: It is not necessary for you to spend the whole afternoon to do it. Just make it a habit to do it daily for 10 to 15 minutes until the whole place is in order

3. One small area at a time: Don’t ever think of clearing the whole place in one go. It will definitely discourage you from doing it in the first place. Start small, say, by clearing your desktop. It won’t take long but immediately you will be able to see a positive impact on you by looking at a clean and tidy desk.

4. Recycle newspaper and magazines: Get rid of the old newspapers and magazines by sending them away for recycling. There are also people who are paying you by the kilo to collect your items from your house. Isn’t it nice to dispose off things you don’t want and get paid?

5. Reference books for the library: Send your reference and textbooks to the library so that more people can make use of the books.

6. Give away: Things like clothes, because they don’t fit any more and they are just like new ones, should be sent to those people you know who need them. Brand new greeting cards and toys are fun things to have for your neighbours’ children. They will be delighted to receive them. These are just two examples of useful items to give away.

7. The right way to discard things: Ask yourself this simple question: When was the last time you used this item? If your answer is seldom or never, get it out of the house. Follow the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time you only use 20 % of the things such as clothes that you wear, books that you refer to and tools that you use. Throw the other 80% of the things out of the house.

According to Feng Shui when your house is clean, tidy and spacious, it attracts a positive flow of energy into it. I have just started clearing things at home which I have intended to do for a long time. I am glad that I have taken the first step and I will do it daily to keep my house simple, clean, tidy and roomy.
