7 Ways to Get Motivated in the Morning

7 Ways to Get Motivated in the Morning

Morning is an important time of day, because how you spend your morning can often tell you what kind of day you are going to have.
~ Lemony Snicket

Morning is the beginning of a brand new day. The most important thing is to start the day with the right frame of mind and do the right things so that you will stay cheerful and motivated throughout the day.

1.       Plan the night before: You start a new day the night before. You plan ahead what you want to do and how you are going to do it. In this way, you are in full control when it is dawn.  The best thing you can do is to read a chapter or listen to classical music before going to bed.

2.       Get up early:  Going to bed early is the only way to wake up early. I knock off at around ten at night and I am up and about by six in the morning when the sky is still dark. I do not need an alarm, I wake up naturally. As an early riser, I get a good feeling because I start early and I have not wasted my time.  The best way to motivate yourself is to be an early riser and you will know you are in control of your life.

3.       Morning rituals: I have a glass of water to hydrate my body after eight hours of sleep. This is followed by stretching and a round of Tai Chi in a cool and quiet atmosphere. This is the best way to create energy and calmness in your body to face yet another challenging day.

4.       Psyche yourself up:  The next thing I do is to brush my teeth and wash my face and I tell myself right in front of the mirror that I am the No.1. blogger in Malaysia. It is my way of motivation to create enthusiasm, excitement, and energy in the morning.

5.       Breakfast: A healthy breakfast is an essential part of my morning routine. I will not start work without eating. Coffee is my beverage to kick start a new day. Breakfast literally means breaking fast and it is the source of your energy and you can’t start a new day without it.

6.       Do the most important thing: As a blogger, I will write an article in the morning. It is a good habit and I stick to it.  In the morning, my mind is fresh and it is the best time to be creative and do what matters the most to me. You should do the same so that you know while others are about to get up you have already accomplished a great deal. Isn’t it one effective way to motivate yourself in the morning?

7.       A positive frame of mind:  Think cheerful thoughts, wear a smile and greet people you meet happily. Wear smartly and act confidently. These are some of the delightful ways to get motivated in the morning.

Over to you, how do you get motivated in the morning?

5 Ways to be Linspired by Linsanity

Jeremy Lin

Suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us.

Jeremy Lin is the most popular person on earth right now. I have watched a few of his games and I am truly amazed, inspired and motivated.  There are a few important lessons to learn from this hottest personality:

1.      Courage: According to David Brooks of The New York Times, his primary virtue is courage - the ability to withstand pain, remain calm under pressure and rise from nowhere to topple the greats.  He was undrafted, a D-Leaguer, a bench warmer and a couch crasher. In life when you believe in yourself for what you can do, you will be successful eventually. The key is perseverance.

2.      Be prepared and be patient:  The first thing you can learn from him is to be patient, says Kelly Scaletta, one thing that people are forgetting throughout this Lin, the situation is that he didn't suddenly burst onto the scene. Lin is in his second season. He has prepared and worked for years perfecting his skills and waiting patiently for his chance to come. In life, you have to be prepared and be ready for your lucky break.

3.      Seize the opportunity and show the world your best: Jeremy Lin got hold of the chance and captured the attention of the world by delivering 7 straights wins for Knicks. When you are given the opportunity, grab it and do your best like Jeremy Lin.

4.      Be humble: As a Christian, Lin is a humble person. He does not let success get over his head. He credits his teammates for his success. People love you more when you care more about them.

5.      Do things with your heart and soul: When he is playing, he is in the game with his heart and soul to win.  In life, you work with your heart to get things done. When you feel good about yourself in what you do, you do it wholeheartedly.

What have you learnt from Jeremy Lin?

7 Effective Ways to Motivate Your Child Who is Studying in Another Country

7 Effective Ways to Motivate Your Child Who is Studying in Another Country

The best way to make children good is to make them happy. ~Oscar Wilde

When your child is away from home studying in another country, how do you keep in touch, showing your concern for his or her well-being and keeping them motivated?  Here are a few things you can do to support and motivate them:

1.       Send a daily quote: This is what I do to my son who is studying in Singapore. Every morning, I will, without fail, email him a motivational quote. There is nothing better than some encouraging words to start a brand new day. Motivational quotes inspire and stimulate you to start a new day with the right frame of mind and stay positive and motivated.

2.       Weekly chat over Skype: In order that he is not interrupted in his study and daily routine, we only chat with our son during the weekend through Skype, which is free.  This weekly session is to touch base and exchange information and also allows us to be on top of his progress. It is heartwarming to chat and see his face on the computer screen. How do you keep in touch with your child and how often?

3.       Help him do homework: My son is studying Business IT. From time to time, I will help him with his assignments through email.  My experience in the real business world and the proper usage of commercial English is a great help to him.  He is happy that he can count on his dad and I am happy that I can help my son.

4.       Be enthusiastic and provide support for your child’s effort and endeavor:  Always encourage your child in what he or she is trying to achieve in their study. When they know that you are supporting their effort, they will try harder and do their best.

5.       Congratulate him for each stage of his success: Share the joy and happiness with your child when he or she has met with success even in a small way. Success breeds success and it is a powerful way to build confidence and stay motivated. By the same token, stay by your child when they meet with setbacks and obstacles. Encourage them to bounce back and be resilient.

6.       Celebrate his or her success: Don’t forget to celebrate his success when your child has returned home for his or her semester break.  It is to renew their fighting spirits and encourage them to do better in the journey of life.

7.       Remind your child to be health-conscious: Does your child exercise regularly? My son is not physically active. We often remind him to move about more often so that he can be fit physically and mentally. To be successful in life is to be fit physically and excel academically.

You will know your child is motivated because of he or her:

·         Sets challenging goals
·         Gets assignments done  with great effort and concentration
·         Is enthusiastic to learn  and know more

When you are motivated, you can motivate your child.

Life takes on meaning when you become motivated, set goals, and charge after them in an unstoppable manner. ~Les Brown

Here are some soul searching questions to ask yourself:

1.       Do you jump-start a new day?
If you drag yourself out of bed every day, it means you have nothing to look forward to.  It also means you are not interested in what you are going to do. When you wake up and get up immediately, you are excited and motivated to start a new day to get things done.

2.       Do you set challenging goals?
Challenging goals are attainable but not easy to reach. It requires your confidence, determination, and a never-say-die attitude. When you are motivated you to aim high.

3.       Are you happy and feeling good?
How do you feel every day? Are you worried? Are you in control? When you have planned ahead and organized in advance, you feel calm and collected.  When you are on top of things, you feel good about yourself.

4.       Do you think positively?
Thinking positive is the way to build confidence and react to events. You are motivated to get ahead and get what you want to do right away and nothing can stop you.

5.       Do you find joy in what you do?
Are you happy at work? Do you work creatively to simplify your work? When you are interested in what you do you are motivated to work smarter.

6.       Do you bounce back or are you resilient?
When you face setbacks and problems do you encourage yourself to try harder and do it in a different way?  If you give up when you fail you are not motivated.

7.       Are you focused?
Are you passionate about your dreams and goals? Be inspired by what you want to achieve and you will be motivated to go for it fervently.

Be motivated to be successful.
