Be Productive – Daily Check List

Be Productive – Daily Check List

Welcome every morning with a smile. Look on a new day as another special gift from your Creator, another golden opportunity to complete what you were unable to finish yesterday. Be a self-starter. Let your first hour set the theme of success and positive action that is certain to echo through your entire day. Today will never happen again. Don't waste it with a false start or no start at all. You were not born to fail.
~Og Mandino

Getting productive is doing what is important to you and bringing you nearer to your goals. A productive day is starting a new day organized and you are mentally and physically alert and fresh.

1.      Start a new day early: It indicates that there is something to look forward to and you also avoid rushing about to get things done.

2.      Exercise or meditate: To positively tune your mind and body so that you feel good about yourself and start a new day with enthusiasm and excitement

3.      Have a nutritious breakfast: It gives you the energy you need to meet the demand of a challenging day.

4.      The right frame of mind: Get motivated by reading inspirational quotes instead of reading the daily news which is filled with despair and hopelessness.

5.      Be ready with your to-do list: Do  what is important first thing in the morning when your energy is at it speak

6.      Focus on one task at a time and avoid multitasking and distractions.

7.      Take a break before moving on to a new task. Drink water throughout the day

8.      Delegate whenever possible: You can’t do everything by yourself.

9.      Get away from your work and enjoy your lunch outside: It is not healthy to eat and work and it is counterproductive.

10.   Downtime: Do other tasks like checking emails, filing, and looking for information on the Net at the end of the day because the jobs are time-consuming and you can kill time productively.

11.  Get ready the tasks for the following day and tidy up your workplace.

12.  Get physical in the great outdoors to get fresh air like jogging to release stress and regain your composure after a hard day’s work.

13.  Family time: Don’t bring work home, leave work at work. It is family time at home. Have dinner together, help with household chores, check your children’s homework and do a reading for self-development.

14.  Write a gratitude journal to focus on positive things for the day.

15.  Get ready a to-do list for the following day. It is a daily productive habit.

16.  Sleep early so that you can get up early. You can’t burn the candle at both ends.

Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense. This day is all that is good and fair. It is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on yesterdays.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Strengths and Weaknesses of Small Business Owners

Strengths and Weaknesses of Small Business Owners

Introduction

According to Wikipedia a small business varies widely around the world. Small businesses are normally privately owned corporations, partnerships, or sole proprietorships. What constitutes "small" in terms of government support and tax policy varies by country and by industry, ranging from fewer than 15 employees under the Australian Fair Work Act 2009, 50 employees in the European Union, and fewer than 500 employees to qualify for many U.S. Small Business Administration programs,

Externally (strengths)

Small businesses are more or less the same within the same industry when you look from the outside because they employ a similar way to operate a business.

·         Business model: There are able to copy and imitate how other successful entities operate a business in a particular industry. They sell more or less the same products, using the same channel to reach consumers. They advertise where others do.  They have their own logo, a registered trademark, a website, and a Facebook present. For those workers that are in contact with customers, they wear a smart uniform.  Smart business owners choose cash term to do business transactions.

Internally (weaknesses)

However, the weaknesses of small business owners cannot be noticed by an outsider.
Here are some of the shortfalls:

·         Hire their own people: Usually, it is family-owned. They hire their family members and relatives to work for them. They may not get the best people to run the business and their growth is restricted.  Worse still they may not be able to manage the business properly.

·         No clear vision: They usually jump on the bandwagon and follow the current business trend. There is no creativity to differentiate their brand from others. Usually, there is no long-range planning.

·         No system in place: They do not do a budget or cash flow projection. There is no internal control such as stock. There are few written rules and regulations for staff to follow or operating procedures.

·         Not valuing the people who work for them: Staff get the minimum benefits from their owners. There is not much training or development, but they are the ones who are in close contact with customers. There is no clear career path and you don’t expect the owners to raise your pay without you asking for it because there is no staff evaluation or performance assessment.

Conclusion (the way to go forward)

If the owners are able to hire people more capable than themselves, they will prosper. They will definitely grow much faster with a proper management system. They will build a better brand in the marketplace if they care more about their workers.

10 Ways to Avoid Negativity

10 Ways to Avoid Negativity

Dwelling on the negative simply contributes to its power.
~Shirley MacLaine

You are bombarded by negativity everywhere, On the Net, in the news, and people around you. How do you get yourself immune to such negative effects? Here are several ways to keep your sanity:

1.      Change your thoughts: The easiest way is to change your thinking when you are caught with negative thoughts. Another effective way is to choose to look at things from a bright perspective. Being gloomy will dampen your fighting spirit. Instead of half full, you look at a glass as half empty.

2.      Avoid negative people and influences:  One simple way is to get away from people who discourage you and tell you why things cannot be worked out. Stop reading things with a pessimistic view. Hang around with people who are determined to get impossible things done and be inspired.

3.      Keeping fit: You will be energetic when you are fit and healthy. You will feel fresh and calm every day to face challenges head-on. A weak body is more likely to succumb to defeat.

4.      Be here and now: Thinking too much of the wrong things will rob you of your ability to live in the moment. Now is the time to take action and focus on what you do and do the best you can.

5.      Look for solutions: An outstanding problem will always nag you. Do not dwell on it, be creative and look for a way to overcome the problem. A problem-solving attitude will transform your outlook from negative to positive. Solving a problem will also boost your confidence to deal with obstacles in the future.

6.      Be motivated daily: Read motivational quotes in the morning instead of all the bad news in the papers to feel good and dispel negative thoughts. Act cheerfully, smile, and dress smartly to start every new day with a bright note.

7.      Be goal-driven: A goal is an effective way to look forward in life positively. There is something to do and hope for. Life has its meaning and you will not go through every single day with emptiness. Have you got your goals in writing so that you can look at them every day?  Create a positive vision.

8.      An attitude of gratitude: Don’t grumble that you have been treated unfairly in life. Take a positive approach. You will get a feeling of well-being when you are appreciative of your life and the people around you. Focus on the good to feel good.

9.      Avoid previous mistakes to haunt you: Don’t allow your shortcomings in the past to weaken your resolve to get things done. Learn valuable lessons from what you have done wrong in the past and move on in a different way. Now is the time to act and do it right.

10.  Don’t get stuck in a rut: Be bold, do something different, and change your life.  You can’t expect changes if you are doing the same old thing every day and keep complaining about it.

Face the sun and the shadow will fall behind you.

10 Powerful Words that Spell Success

10 Powerful Words that Spell Success

Be inspired by these motivational words. These powerful words contain the essential elements of lasting success:

1.      Dream

A dream is the starting point of your passion and success. It sets your heart on fire because the vision of your dream inspires and excites you. Do you have a  dream?

You've got to have a dream if you want to have a dream come true.
            ~Dennis Waitley

2.      Prepared

A dream is only an image in your mind. To set your dream in motion, write down your goals, plan for it and organize your daily task to realize your dream.

Good plans shape good decisions. That's why good planning helps to make elusive dreams come true.
Lester Robert Bittel

3.      Act

Your plan is useless if you do not act. Do it now and work on it every day. It is your daily effort that counts and not just doing it once in a while.

We should be taught not to wait for inspiration to start a thing.  Action always generates inspiration.  Inspiration seldom generates action.
~Frank Tibolt

4.      Persistent

The road to success is full of obstacles, problems, and setbacks.  You must persist and persevere and be resilient when you fall down. If your goals are not challenging it is not worthwhile and you will not be satisfied.  Resistance strengthens your resolve and boosts your determination to reach your objectives.

The key of persistence opens all door closed by resistance
~ John Di Lemme

5.      Focused

When you know what you do is right, do not get distracted. Work with focus and concentrate on the task at hand. Do one thing at a time and do it well. The most important thing is to enjoy the process.

Most people have no idea of the giant capacity we can immediately command when we focus all of our resources on mastering a single area of our lives.
~Anthony Robbins

6.      Confident

Believing in what you do will bring your success. Put a smile on your face and face the world with a bright perspective.

You can have anything you want if you will give up the belief that you can't have it.
~Dr. Robert Anthony

7.      Enthusiastic

Are you motivated by your dream? Do you get excited to get things done? Are you enthusiastic to start a new day early? If you are, you will achieve your dream.

Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

8.      Learn

Continuous learning is the way to be knowledgeable.  When you learn by actually doing it you gain experience and wisdom. To be successful is to open your mind to new ideas.

You cannot open a book without learning something.
~ Confucius

9.      Creative

It is an idea, an original and unique one that differentiates you from others. Be resourceful to work differently by using the knowledge that you have gained.

Creativity is thinking up new things. Innovation is doing new things.
      ~ Theodore Levitt

10.  Change

If at first, you do not succeed, try another way. If you are doing the same old way day in day out, make changes and seek progress. You may be doing right, but there is always room for improvement. Most importantly change with technological advancements.

Resolve to be a master of change rather than a victim of change.
~Brian Tracy

To accomplish great things, we must not only act but also dream; not only plan but also believe.
Anatole France
